To the "shark fishermen" in the area

Hello all,

Just wanted to take a quick moment to hopefully prevent the same disasters that are happening in FL from happening here in SC.

If you want to fish for sharks, you fish for sharks, or may fish for sharks in the future - please under no circumstances should you ever be fishing on folly or IOP or any place similar until after 4pm, and even still do not set up and start kayaking baits out if there are 100 tourists around. Don’t leave your bait on the beach - throw it in a trash can on your way off the beach and not toss it in the super shallow water where itll be on the beach in the morning for tourists to find.

A mahi or tuna head or whatever else you leave gets REALLY bad attention in the media. They are having to deal with a lot of nonsense in FL after the recent tournament and we really don’t want to see that happen here. We have 10s of thousands of dollars and thousands of hours invested - and if you were to get serious about the sport you will probably too.

It is critical at this time anyone fishing for sharks from land is on top of being polite, regardless of how insane the tourists can be, and keeping the beach cleaner than when they arrived. While it is our right to fish, it is their right to feel safe in a public space, keep that in mind. When this season rolls around myself and my team is just asking everyone who is involved in this amazing sport just be extremely careful! It is very rewarding and we want to keep it that way for years to come.

If you need you any questions (other than where to fish) feel free to contact me - I will gladly take some time to educate new comers and make sure you are being smart and safe rather than leave it to chance.

Thank You,
Stan &

To add to what Stan said; if you go to Sullivan’s island, the people there let their dogs run free off leash. It’s really annoying when a (**() dog comes up and runs off with your bait. Even worse is when one digs up the entrails of something you cut up as bait and buried deep in the sand before any of them thought about waking up. Take a trash bag with you and keep it out of the dogs’ reach.

Well said Stan. Glad to hear someone with the right mind set and not the “I have every right to fish here” attitude. Show respect and you will get respect. Who wants to fish around people anyway

As surf fisherman we are out numbered probably 10,000 to 1? More? We must be very respectful of people and places. I don’t shark fish on purpose, but do catch my share. It would only take a few complaints from the right people to have shark fishing banned from our beaches. Myrtle beach already has laws on the books. If caught, it’s like a $500.00 fine. But we all know a few Sharpnose and a Sandbar here and there is no threat to anyone. But still Sharks. And I too do my part to police my area of trash and debris. And keep your bait in a something with a lid?
