They teach us to lean back and strut on PI, so I guess semi-upright is somewhat accurate. ![]()

[i]A pressure washer will blast 10 bushels clean in a couple minutes. When I did it we didn’t have a pressure washer at the house, we stopped at the quarter car wash on the way home and cleaned them there. Cost about a dollar to clean a truck load of oysters. Leaves the stink at the car wash instead of the house too

NEVER use a pressure wash to clean oysters!!! It is to strong and breaks the lips on the shells, or forces fresh water into the oysters and kills them. Car wash water is recycled, don’t want that on my oysters.

Best oyster cleaner I have ever used… Pour in oysters, hit with spray nozzel while they tumble for a minute or two. Oysters come out mud free and the razor sharp edges are gone… Me and a friend went in together and bought one, works out great and he stores it…

We use a 2" gas powered pump with a brass “fire nozzle”, and wash right on the water. The boys have a floating dock out in the marsh. We washed well over 1000 bushels last year, and I think we have it down to a science!

I for one def appreciate all the hard work that penny’s dad, sellsfish, and others do to make local oysters available to the general public like myself. I can only imagine how back breaking it is and for little payoff. I know I must have consumed someone’s oysters from this sight and I thank you… I would be glad to buy any of you a drink one day… Salute to you!
“mr keys”
Almost “afraid” to post this. Not sure at all if I am accurate ,HOWEVER, in reading the regulations trying to help the hoopnet shrimper it appears that shrimp baiting licenses are granted to only recreational shrimpers…Commercial licensees and their employees should consider this when applying for licenses to bait shrimp.
A first offense would “allow” you to buy back all confiscated equipment at retail value within 6 months of the violation but no more than $2500.So if they confiscated more than $2500 worth of equipment(say 20,000 dollar truck) you could get it back for $2500.But if you are not so rich and have a truck or boat worth $2499.00 you will have to pay the full value.
A second offense goes up to $5000.00
A third offense and you can not buy back your stuff.
Another example of our justice system- poor folks screwed and rich folks slapped on the wrist.
I fear I have said too much already as the inevitable nitpickers are coming.
Toppy…you need to go fishing. …as I am getting ready to go do.
You are correct that the commercial sales people (and owners of shrimp trawlers btw) cannot buy a license to bait shrimp…They can however free cast If they want. There are a lot of folks both commercial and non that don’t bait shrimp.
Instead of looking at the fact that there are fines and what they are…why not look at the fact that there are laws Set in the first place.
While you may feel they are too low…at least their are rules…and believe me…the added possibility of losing ones ability to fish/shrimp/crab etc is also not worth the risk to most
But what about this? Have you ever also wonder how it would feel to be either owner or seller and not be able to take your kids or grand kids to catch some shrimp baiting for yourselves.? Not to sell.but just for yourself and just for fun…a family/friend outing. Say sellsfish for examples wants to take his friend out to catch a few shrimp for his family…There’s two sides to a coin…and although you can catch(trawler owners) buy and sell ( commercial folks) …you can’t do something that they might have enjoyed doing before becoming owners. So you see,.there are other things to take into consideration, and restrictions put on you for doing what you do.
Now you will Probably say that’s to keep things honest in them…but there are “regular” folks who sell what they catch baitingor fishing under a regular license…,that’s been proven . …and the penalties if caught are there.
Most folks here are trying to answer your questions and explain things to you that you don’t understand…but it seems we better get us a cup of coffee if you are going to go through all the regulations ;).
Toppy…people in general on here are very patient and want to help others…so to say there are a bunch of nitpickersm isn’t nice. Sure there’s a occasional"wrong forum remark"post…or one of us jabbing a t another in jest…but if you feel there’s too many not nice pe
I hold wholesale permits and commercial fishing license, thus I am not allowed to buy a shrimp baiting permit…Not that I would want to for that matter, to much work

I totally agree with your remarks,Any taxpayer should be able to get a shrimping license,no exceptions,as long as they comply with license. Dont think we need laws that allow dnr to take your stuff!!! that is gestapo type enforcement of complicated laws that are easily unintentionally violated…Suspend their license at most for a first offense…I mean are we drug dealers??
quote:
I certainly do not think the penalties are too low!!! They are way way too severe…My point on the confiscation stuff was that it favors the rich…
Warn someone for the first unintended violation, suspend their license for the second similar violation, Then get serious if another similar violation occurs.
Did not I recently read somewhere where DNR confiscated someones boat for being in the water before a specific hour with poles and bait?? Surely in this modern era they(dnr could use some surveillance method that would easily catch someone posting poles early.Ignorance is no excuse for violating the law, however in cases like this unintentional violations could be warned.Liberty and justice for all.Common sense justice is rapidly disappearing and liberties with them…We need the regulations,no doubt! And we need to follow them or change them.Justice means just or fair…Without the fairness and equally dispensed part of justice, there is no freedom.By pickers i am referring to those that deliberately twist words and meanings in an attempt to make themselves look better,If the shoe fits, wear it, if not god bless you.
