Sorry i did not answer your question about school taxes…All public schools and colleges should be high quality and free for our young…taxing personal property for this is wrong and confiscating personal property for unpaid taxes is atrocious!Taxes should be based on how much you make and how much you spend. Then the government should report monthly what percentages that go to big ticket items like Education, military, and government employees.
The other point about the 65 thing on licenses. Yes I have one,it is permanent…You can thank the Legislature for that one…Dnr could have just as easily not required a license for residents with ID over 65…In other words,The actual law says you are exempt and DNR requires you to have one and it be in your posession…Seems like a waste of taxpayer money and a show of power and control on DNR’s part.I mean they have to make, dispense, replace, and enforce the license thing, I guess that is more justification for their budget.

I totally agree with your remarks,Any taxpayer should be able to get a shrimping license,no exceptions,as long as they comply with license. Dont think we need laws that allow dnr to take your stuff!!! that is gestapo type enforcement of complicated laws that are easily unintentionally violated…Suspend their license at most for a first offense…I mean are we drug dealers??

I certainly do not think the penalties are too low!!! They are way way too severe…My point on the confiscation stuff was that it favors the rich…
Warn someone for the first unintended violation, suspend their license for the second similar violation, Then get serious if another similar violation occurs.
Did not I recently read somewhere where DNR confiscated s
You do not have to worry about PETA(People for the Ethical treatment of Animals) They have pooped in their nests by endorsing and comitting “terrorist type” acts on animal owners.HSUS has the power and many former PTEA’S are there now. They will come for the fishermen but first they have to finish with the farmers and get the hunters…They are gonna get the “mammal” abusers first but snatching those beautiful creatures out of their home with sharp gaff-like hooks and then sufocating them or releasing back into the water in a weakened state type animal rights hype is coming …be patient and wait til it gets to you and it will!I hate all of them!!! They are good at what they do and have millions to pay for lobbyists and politicians. Every time I see The HSUS begging for money with fake pet ads on TV it makes me sick to think people are supporting them…It is nuts how they send meat eaters(whom they consider barbaric and prehistoric for eating their equals)messages begging for money and these folks actually send money thinking HSUS will save the pets…
Sorry folks but he did mention PETA and that lit a fire..Local pet shelters and local humane societies are a different story,,I support them and admire their dedication to helping our loving pets..
Sorry again I’ll stop on that issue before I have a stroke!

Another example of our justice system- poor folks screwed and rich folks slapped on the wrist.
Yeah,I guess some folks go shrimping to just get shrimp, but not most. Most do it for enjoyment, accomplishment and practicing freedom. It is a whole lot more economical just to buy them from folks like you…There is no logical reason why you are excluded!I guess someone feels better for being able to limit your freedom,Yet another example of unjust laws…No JUSTICE there.

I hold wholesale permits and commercial fishing license, thus I am not allowed to buy a shrimp baiting permit…Not that I would want to for that matter, to much work

NMFS = No More Fishing Season
“Back home we got a taxidermy man. He gonna have a heart attack when he see what I brung him”
if you are gonna buy shrimp, you are better off getting them FOB instead of waiting for a middleman to put his markup on them. That is if you are buying in bulk. IF you just need a few pounds then places like Sellsfish should be your go to spots.
At first glance that seems logical. And I do understand that perception. In reality It just would not be “cost effective”(profitable) for an individual to pay for a license, buy poles and bait and gas and nets and boat expenses etc etc to catch and resell shrimp under these license controls with a cast net.Being limited to one cooler per boat(if you are that lucky) ensures no one can do it for a profit.
This is for DNR: What are the real reasons for not allowing anyone to do this?

There is a logical reason why people like sells fish can not hold a baiting license. Not that he would , but it would be easy to catch and then sell.
When shrimp baiting first began it was a very cost efficient manner of catching shrimp. Cast net, fish meal, dig clay from the marsh, bamboo poles and 6 gallons of gas, and there were people catching hundreds of pounds a night. Much cheaper than a trawler burning 200 gallons of fuel a day, plus ice, nets and overall expense.
So true! Fuel costs today are more than 10 times what they were.I suppose back then you could get marine(off road) diesel for 20 cents a gallon (back then gas was 29.9 cents a gallon) . I remember taking a friend with 3 coolers and filling the coolers with reds caught on rod and reel in one trip. That was in the florida gulf coast and Tampa Bay (45 years ago).It was fun and profitable. Those days are gone forever. That particular friend installed garage doors for a living, he bought a large boat and converted it to a shrimp trawler and started doing that way back then. Sadly today the cost of fuel coupled with shrimp imports is making shrimp trawling obsolete.
