Tough day because of the Blue Crabs

Almost did not go fishing in the creeks today because of all the rain we got last night but gambled anyway. I could not keep any fiddler crabs on the hook today because the Blue crabs are ravenous. Normally the Blue crabs leave my fiddler crabs alone but not today. I wonder if the fresh water triggered them into a feed or just this time of year?

Had this big old Red pounce on my bait just after I tossed it in. It must have been racing the crabs to the bait. It was six inches over slot and was released immediately after the pic. Didn’t really need to move it back and forth,; it took off like a rocket. Guess I’ll need to take some crab bait that I have been saving down with me next time to keep the crabs occupied while I fish.

Maybe you should just go crabbing:wink: I’ve been told, that they eat purty good:smiley:

Those blue crabs are my goto bait for big reds! Catch some and cut the in half put them on a 4/0 hook and throw back out!

You are right on Boatpoor, I cut them in 4 pieces. I like them around docks. Seems like the larger Reds prefer them.

Going back out today armed with crabbing gear, figured I would try to slow the onslaught on the baits and have surf and turf tonight.

Now that’s the right attitude! When life gives you crabs, make surf @ turf:smiley:

Wow! Nice fish man. Same place? I’m starting to wonder if I know you. You don’t happen to work at PI do you?

Don’t work at PI, but go there so much it might look like it.

We live just around the corner from PI.

Yeah, same place. Went home with almost a dozen Blue crabs but no fish yesterday.
