Trailer Couplers, Balls and Jacks

Working in the equipment industry I am constantly amazed at the general public‘s lack of awareness to trailer safety. On a regular basis I see couplers that are left unlatched, trailers without keepers in the couplers, ball and couplers that are miss matched, ball or receiver not rated to carry the load, missing safety chains, safety chains not in use or safety chains that are not rated to handle the load should there be a coupler failure, and items that are flat out beyond there usable life rusted beyond belief and hanging on by a mere thread of steel. This weeks article comes to us complements of Towboat US. While most of the information provided here may seem elementary it is very often overlooked. Before you back your total vehicle up to your trailer again review the information provided herein and ask yourself would you feel safe with your wife and kids riding behind your vehicle and trailer?
