Will be comin down the first week of April. Will have one of those pelican plastic pontoon boats (bass raider) with a little motor. I have looked into the three public boat launches and just looking for a little direction. We usually go to the panhandle for spring break, I bring same set up and smash the trout and reds on the intercoastal, 90% come using some sort of mirrolure twitch bait. Any of the three launches offer better fishing, what would I be looking to catch and I have read slower presentation. Jig and plastic, poppin cork? Am I on the right path?
Anybody?

The water is usually a little cool in early April in our area. Fishing will be much slower than the panhandle that time of year. By Mid-April trout fishing really picks up.
The good old 1/4 oz. jig with plastic grub will work anywhere there is a disturbance in the flow of the current (rips). Twitch baits and topwater baits should be great during early and late day low light conditions.
Our big tidal range creates strong currents. April brings high winds. Strong winds plus strong tides mean conditions can go downhill very quickly. I would leave the plastic boat home and invest in a few trips with a local guide. Seems like I hear of a few boats getting swamped every year in our waters during April. The water is way too cool for swimming that time of year!
If you must do the plastic boat thing, do early morning or late afternoon when the winds are usually light and stay close to the landing. There are many landings listed on the SCDNR website.
Your plastic boat would be perfect for some freshwater fishing at Public Landing on Combahee River.

my little rig worked great in the intercoastal of the panhandle and that water is much bigger that the backwaters of Hilton head? Don’t people kayak fish here?
There is a kayak forum on here. That’s not my area of expertise.

Update on trip, went out three times, out of marshland landing, caught fish all three times, 9 total, all trout with 1 red. Most fish coming at low tide, fish caught on 1/8 jig with electric chicken saltwater assassin 4 inch swim bait, and 2 on a mirrolure top dog. Cool fishery, can’t wait to do it it again.
Glad you found some fish iceoiler! The fishing should get even better as the water warms over the next few weeks. Seems like every year the bite gets hot for all species when the water temp gets in the low 70’s. I like clear water on the incoming tide for trout in the Spring.
