There is a storm that may or may not develop into a tropical depression headed towards the S.C. coast this weekend. I’m planning a fishing trip out that way 6/2 through 6/7 and will be fishing the marshes around Pinckney Island. I’m curious what impact, if any, that storm could have. I know heavy rains can cause salinity levels to drop in some inshore areas and cause fish to move farther out until things get back to normal. I would think the waters I’m going to be fishing wouldn’t be affected by this but you locals know best. I’m coming from the Middle Tennessee area.
Some of you may or may not remember my name and my post from last October. I went on a vacay with my wife and did some kayak fishing. Took a couple days to figure it out but I wound up having a really fun time fishing. Nice reds and tons of specks. This time it is strictly a fishing trip, no wife haha. 5 days of sunrise to sunset kayak fishing. I’m so pumped up for this trip and really hope that storm doesn’t hamper it. Thanks!
Probably none. It should be well gone by then. Today would be the day to fish though. They always seem to turn on before a storm like that moves in. I was supposed to go, but had to cancel this morning last minute due to family issues. My buddies went without me, again [:I]
That’s good to hear. And yes I was already thinking how awesome the fishing would be today and maybe tomorrow before the storm arrives, though it could get kind of risky doing that in my kayak! Stay safe this weekend, if anything, this storm coming in may save some lives because that means less drunk party boaters on the water so look at it that way.
Now let’s just hope another one doesn’t come behind it. If you see a lime green kayak around the island on those dates come say hi. I remember you helping me with advice for my trip last year. I’m armed with Trout Eye jigheads and Trout Tricks this year, I can’t wait to use them. Everything I’ve read says they’re absolutely deadly out there.
MidTennFisher, those trout eyes and trout tricks really are great. Just started using them for the first time this year and have caught redfish, trout and flounder on them pretty regularly. They seem to love the color ‘shrimp po’boy’ trout trick.

Not much fresh water comes thru the Charleston area since the diversion canal opened pushing all the fresh water from several rivers into the Santee river. Our 6’+/- tides flush things out pretty quickly
Thanks, CL. My saltwater trips are limited these days, but I still get out there every now and then. I can’t wait. This should be a great year for trout, reds, and shrimp!
Where locally around Beaufort can I buy Trout Tricks in case I run out or want a different color? I’ve got a bag of shrimp po boy and the other I forget the name but it’s a natural bait fish pattern. Darker color.
Looks like my trip is gonna be cut short by another tropical disturbance I was planning for today thru Monday. I don’t know if I can get a refund for the days I leave early. What a bummer. I hope the first few days are good.
