I know everyone seems to be trying to catch Cobia right now but I was wondering if anybody was having any luck catching any trout or redfish.
I’m new to the area and usually fish the Okatie, Colleton and Chechessee rivers. While I had a very good fall this spring I have not even been able to find any fish. I tried mudminnow’s on jig heads, all types of artificial’s, popping corks, etc. yet no luck.
Lowtide, high tide, mid tide just can’t seem to find them yet. Am I the only one having this issue?
Any advice for this Lowcountry newbie to keep my next fishing trip from being just another boat ride?
Thanks everyone
You are not the lone stranger here fishing for Reds and Trout. One Trout so far this spring. Few Reds. The Trout should pick up any day but the Redfish are a mystery. If you can fish the tailing tides for Redfish and on low water fish docks and tree structure in the bends of creeks.

Coach, misery loves company. I’ve struggled with only three trout to the boat since January 1 and the redfish the past month have been elusive…here today, gone tomorrow. I was hoping the warm weather would get 'em going, but no so for me. I must admit I’ve only been out 4 times in 2 months…too much boat electronics and lots of Hampton Wildlife Fund work and banquets. So I haven’t had time to really look, but all my familiar haunts have been barren or slow.
Dog days of summer are upon us for sure… I like to fish from daylight to about lunch time and head to the house. Top water bite always takes off pretty strong in May so you might wanna give that a try if you haven’t already. It’s not just you it’s everyone so don’t beat yourself up. Even the guys that fish a few times a week struggle. Good luck!

I’ve struck out on Cobia and Reds/Trout my last couple trips. There’s always next time.

I saw a few reds on the oyster bars around Pinckney Island on Sunday. We were really just looking for mullet for bait to start our Cobia day so I had a cast net in my hand instead of a rod, but we scared up 3 or 4. Unfortunately, I also threw onto a bonnet head that came out from under the boat while the net was in the air. He nearly ruined a brand new net!
All things being equal, I would rather be on the water.
