I caught a bunch of small trout in the surf at Hilton head this weekend, I wish I had taken a picture to better identify them, but they were either sand trout or small weak fish, most were around 10 inches long. Has anybody heard of sand trout in SC waters? They were definitely not spotted trout, but they were smaller than any weak fish I have seen and didn’t have the darker color/freckling on the tops and seemed solid in color with yellowish fins. I threw all of them back because they were too small if weak fish, and I didn’t see any limits for sand trout.
Think those are weak fish. Slight greenish hint to them?

It is most likely a weakfish. Caught many of them in Delaware bay and near shore ocean. Attached is a picture. When they are that size, you hear many people call them spike trout. The inside of their mouth is most often yellow.

I fish HHI a lot. They’re most likely Weak fish.
My son caught one in July. We are here now and fished the surf the past couple of days but didn’t catch any weak fish this time.
Did it look like this?
