Its a little late so I thought I would make a post on trout tricks. To start off the only 2 plastics I have EVER caught a trout on was a Zman paddler(trolling) and a trout trick.I have used DOA shrimp DOA jerk shad gulp shrimp gulp jerk shad all the bass assassins and a whole bunch of other soft plastics and yet to get a trout on one, I am not saying they dont work because i have seen people catch fish on them but I haven’t.There have been times where i have fished with a buddy useing same technique line leader same depth same area of the cast just im useing a tout trick and im out fishing them then as soon as they throw one on its like games on, even when they have been useing live bait. It’s just so hard to believe all these big companys are constantly makeing diffrent types of shrimps jerk baits grubs crabs ect. and yet a simple worm has been the key. “When a trout is hungry he’ll eat anything, and when he’s not he’ll eat a trout trick” I feel this to be a 100% true, this has just been an out standing lure for me it is my go to bait I have evan caught freshwater bass on this (not to mention reds and flounder too) I would tie this lure on befor i even thought about even tieing on live shrimp or mud minnows. if you havent tried them out yet I highly advise it. Id just like to give thanks to captain Bob Sanders for making one heck of a lure.
I have read a lot about trout tricks on this sight and heard people talking about them. I always thought it was just a new hot thing that people waste money on, but after reading this post I think you have me sold on buying a pack. Heading to the tackle shop as soon as I get home.
Redfish1331, Haddrell’s sells them individually on the counter by the register (West Ashley), just get one. Then stock up when (not if) you catch a fish. I have caught more flounder on them than trout.

My experience (limited) has been the exact opposite. I bought a bag of TT’s and have 4 left. Never caught a single fish on one. I have much better results using a Chart jighead with a DOA Rootbeer shad with chart paddle tail. I like this setup because you constanly reel and keep the lure off the bottom. The TT’s get stuck on everything. You could easily go through 2 bags in one day just on snags. I might loose 2 shad on a full day of fishing and it’s usually my fault for letting it sink to the bottom.
I still have a few TT’s left, so they are not out of the question, but definately not my number one lure.
Sometimes confidence in a specific lure has more to do with catching fish than the lure it’self. If you think you have the best thing since sliced bread then you use that longer and more aggresively than a lure you haven’t had much luck with.
Again, this is just my experience. Everyones is different.
Someday I believe I will catch something on a TT. I’m just waiting for that day.
All about how you wiggle your worm, just sayin. Once you figure that out it is an incredible lure. My wife who has no interest in fishing catches fish on the TT.
Friogatto, Feel free to give me a call to discuss your technique. I hardly ever get hung using a TT. Look forward to talking with you. Dkscout, Please also give me a call. Thanks, Bob 803-300-2780

the trout trick is a great lure, but the funny thing is I have yet to catch a trout on them. But I have caught some really nice spottail and some nice flounder. so I am not complaining at all, trout are fun fish to catch but spottail are a way better fight. If you have not tried them out go buy some. Most people on here tell you to pop it up then let it drop, this technique has worked for me but I have had better luck jerking it downwards, in 4 to 6 feet of water
You just figured out how to hold your mouth right! But really the TT is an awesome lure, I bought a pack just to see what all the hype was about and they work! Never caught anything but trout, and a 4’ blacktip on then but I gage caught trout on a TT when they didn’t hit ny live mudder under a poppin cork! They are as much a bass catcher as a senko. Typing this I’m realizing I need a new pack
Admittedly, I am not the fisherman that most on here are. I simply don’t have the experience or the proximity to the coast to fish as frequently or as expertly as I would like. However, I enjoy reading this board regularly – especially the inshore threads. Based on the testimonials on these boards, I ordered two packages of TT lures prior to a camping trip to Cumberland Island last November, and I can report that I caught trout for three days while my five other buddies mostly just watched (bitterly). Once our fishing time was running short and I knew that I was in no danger of running out of lures, I shared them with my friends, and they started catching fish too. The (**() things work, period. Unrelated to the TT lures, just to rub it in I also caught a three foot black tip in my cast net while cast netting for bait on the beach side. It was a good camping trip for me to say the least.

It feels really good to have some input on a thread here! I have caught more fish on TT since moving here last year then any other live/cut/aftificial rig. I know reds, trout, and flounder will eat them. It’s all about that double twitch and fall of the TT, they hit it on the fall.!! I always grab a bag when I leave Haddrells, love that they are right on the counter by the register!
Grab a bag, what do you have to lose?
@yak, my weekly &50 allowance to Haddrells always includes a bag of TT!
I have caught fish with them. Nuf sed.

Let me pass this on again. I appreciate all the interest.
The TroutTrick must be allowed to fall STRAIGHT down on a 1/8th ounce
jighead (3/0) to create the reaction bite. With your rod pointed at the lure, reel in the slack and give a couple of jerks, then drop the rod tip to allow bait to fall STRAIGHT down again. In shallow water jerk sideways.
The trout will hit it on the fall or pick it up off the bottom, hence your jerk becomes a hookset. We think the ribs create a vibration saltwater trout home in on. It is so strong that when you fish through a school of totally negative fish, they will strike with their mouths closed. Eventually you will foul hook one and realize what is going on. Because of this, I’ve located schools of fish I would have fished through with other baits.
I am working on getting TroutTricks as well known in Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina as they are here in South Carolina. I will be tickled to reward any help in accomplishing this. Thanks, Bob

Headed out after work (if the weather holds) with a bag of TT. It’ll be around low tide. Where do you guys have the most luck? I have three types of bottom I might try. 1) along the grass line. 2) around shell spoils. 3) on the sloping side of a channel. Not thinking about fishing any deeper than 5 feet. Thoughts on this approach? Any of these bottom types better? Is my targeted depth correct?
A couple points: Trout like moving water, so if its a slack low you might not have as much success. Trout seem to be on the grass edges on a moving tide at higher tide stages - the difference between casting within 1 ft of the grass and 2-3 feet can sometimes make all the difference. At lower tides they will pull off the edges into slightly deeper water, ie a ledge. Of course there are exceptions. But, if you have a trolling motor, the best way to find them is to keep moving and casting to structure, varying depths, etc till you find them. You WILL find them if they are there, using the TT’s and the proper technique. Catch em up

really appreciate the advice. I’ll post in reports if I have any luck
Good thread for learning about trout fishing, thanks.
My best trout catching is on creek mouths or at the ends of small islands during moving water. If you can find this structure near oyster rakes, even better.
Trout tricks work for me. My only complaint with them is they tear easily. I wish they were more elastic like a ZMan.

Gave these a shot yesterday at the tips of my cove, then along the ICW grass as the tide was moving pretty good, then in another sheltered creek around structure with good moving water and lots of bait.
No trout, but at least I got dinner. I like the technique. It’s really easy and from the kayak its a relaxing presentation.
