Forgive me if this has been covered… I checked DNR’s site and it’s vague:
No more than 10 poles can be used per license per day. Poles must be marked with reflective tape and may not exceed 1-inch in diameter and each pole must have a numbered tag attached which corresponds with the shrimp baiting license.
Doesn’t specifiy how many different licenses can be attached as long as one matches the one in the boat. Couldn’t seem to find any additional info about it and the DNR IVR spun me in circles.
Once I went to bulls with a friend. We both were licensed and had 10 poles each. We each set up the poles, then anchored one boat, and were both in the same boat. We ran the poles - filled a 48 and put the full cooler in the anchored boat. Then we ran all 20 poles again and filled his cooler. I don’t think we broke any laws -

One set of poles per boat…one set for each boat…so running all 20 poles was, breaking the law since you were only shrimping from one boat.
So— If we had switched boats after one set of poles, would have that made a difference? Sounds like a grey area in the law to me. If I got a citation for that , it would go to court.
The way this happened , My shrimping buddy paid for a license without knowing that I already had one. I couldn’t drive the boat as well as him - and he couldn’t throw a net ( a 10’)

If you switched boats and worked your own poles with your own boats, that is legal. You still could only shrimp one set of poles using each boat though.
The way you said you did it using 20 poles with one boat, you would be fined…and lose the fight in court too. Know a couple of guys that thought there was a - gray - area in the law. They were wrong.
those guys probably didn’t lawyer up and press it! Jury trial and discovery . We didn’t have one long line of 20 poles I set mine and he set his. Wouldn’t you rather write citations that were paid before court?

They had lawyers. They just ended up spending more money losing their case.
Doesn’t matter how you set your poles, as long as you are shrimping from ( one boat ) using two sets of poles, it is illegal.
Set your poles and shrimp your poles using your boat…then switch to your buddies boat and shrimp his poles using his boat. Legal.
The same two guys thought they could bring one boat and two sets of poles. They hid one set of poles in the woods where they parked the truck ( Buck Hall ) and shrimp each set. Caught a limit, took the boat out and switched poles. Hid the first set of poles and got the other guys poles. Hid first cooler of shrimp in the dog box, while they re-launched and went out and caught another limit.
They got caught and fined…again. Shrimp was very expensive for them that year. LOL!

Thanks for any info…

Haven’t shrimped in a while, but if you are wanting to share poles couldn’t you just make your tags removable? Place the tag on a strip of plastic and wire the tags onto the poles?
Then switch tags when the other guy uses the poles?
We had 2 boats - 2 licenses 2 sets of poles and hid we nothing. We were approached by DNR several times on the water when we did this without incident. We told the officer what we were doing and he said for us to make sure we had a white light on the anchored boat. If I ever think about going again - I will one pole from an anchored boat.
Did you observe and then approach them after they loaded out? The fact that they had only one boat and hid a set of poles and hid a full cooler is not even close to what we did.

Not a LEO. Those guys were doing this repeatedly, and someone called DNR and reported them.
Doesn’t matter that you had two boats and two licenses. You were shrimping 20 poles using only one boat. You needed to USE the other boat to shrimp to be legal.
