Headed out of bluffton around 7 am with my wife to try a bit of offshore fishing. We left late because the seas were predicted to lay down later in the day which never seemed to happen. After a quick stop for a bait well full of live manheden and a bucket extra for chum, we set the course for east and headed out at 30 mph comfortably. First stop was the Betsy Ross where there were three other boats anchored and we tried slow trolling hoping to catch a king. One bite but no hookups so after about 45 minutes we headed out towards the snapper banks. As we ventured out, I saw a few nice bottom areas along the way and stopped for a try. Mostly small grunts and sharks . All spots were taken from the live bottom spots I have from unique maps. We headed further but the seas were picking up rather than laying down as predicted so I started looking for some more live bottom. I found a deeper hole at about 90 ft of water and my wife dropped down a few pieces of squid and Bam! Big, nice Sea Bass. Marked the spot and repeated drifting over for a couple of hours catching all sorts of fun stuff. Bass, Bliners, Triggers and even a small grouper which we returned back to grow some more. Headed in around 2pm and never got those nice seas that were predicted. Thankfully, no storms and overall a great day out on the new boat.
I need smaller hooks to target triggers, I saw a charter trolling the area but didn’t seem to catch anything and never trust the predicted seas.
Nice work right there Tridogs!
