Ugly Ducklin' Charters - 7/1/09

Welcome to the Dog Days of Summer. It’s hot, hot, hot, hot. Now, let’s get to fishing.

We went fishing with John and Jodie yesterday morning and turned out a fun day. Things started off great with John catching his first red right off the bat. After that, things were pretty consistent with a good bite, including a sneaky little bonnethead shark. I knew something was “fishy” when the back rod got nailed. He ran hard for a second, and I just knew we had a pretty good bass on there, then the line went slack and we came up with no leader. That pretty much told me what was going on, and so no sooner did Jodie cast right back in the same hole, the rod goes down again. This time he had a good hookup. A few minutes later, here comes a nice sized little bonnethead with both of my leaders hanging out of his mouth. The guys got a kick out of that. We finished out with some more redfish, and a few nice trout. All releases were healthy to fight another day.

All in all, it was a really fun charter.

Water temp is around 90 degrees back in the creeks and cloudy after the rain.
