We had two great charters Saturday morning. From the sound of it, you’d think that I was telling you a joke if I said, “So there is this charter captain, a Russian, and a guy from Poland,” but that’s just how it was. I’ll have to say, these guys were a hoot! So George from Poland, Demetri from Belarus, both preachers, and myself, headed off the dock at 6:00 AM. It’s always a pleasure to introduce folks to new things, especially when it’s the majic of Edisto, and before we even got on the boat they were amazed at the beauty of this SC secret. After getting a load of bait, we get to the spot and get set up. Demetri, is already a world class pike fisherman on the Volga River. So how’s that for a standard mark. Now I get to show him some SC reds. These guys were fascinated with the gear that I had. The rods, the reels, the type of line, hooks, swivels, etc. All had to be detailed and written down. Hopefully they have WalMart in Russia so he will stock up when he gets home. After a few pretty nice sized red releases, we even put a little chunk of a trout in the boat. George’s first fish ever! Just great! Okay lines back in and then it hit. You who have had a big spottail hit know what I mean. Rod tip in the water. Organized chaos is the only way to describe it, and when I holler for George to grab the rod to reel in his bass, I think he was a little shocked at the power. “George! Grab it! Grab IT!” “No! No! No! I cannot you take!” Well, it was short lived at that, because our beast in tow just took off with my hook and left the line with a “Pow!” I guess that’s how it is though. If you don’t get on them quick, a redfish will take every liberty you give them. I’ve been fishing this water for a good while, and this was one of the better ones. Not one to give that liberty. Whoever does get that fish in will have a great opportunity for a picture, I can tell you that. Hopefully I’ll be there, too.
We met the Georgia boys back at the dock, and they had done pretty good too with two black d
