Ugly!

Why in the world does a 10 point win feel like a loss? The game was never really in doubt, but my Tigers need to get their act together if they are going to make it to the playoffs. Then again, if you can play that bad and still win, then I guess that’s a good thing.

Should have been a win by 20 or more. Turnovers, missed tackles, and some blown plays made it ugly. It’s still a win

A win is a win in November. Not many others are winning them all, Clemson is fine.

Venebales seemed to think they were looking ahead and did not play with intensity or focus. Looks like they were tired and not taking Cuse seriously.

I’m surprised we held onto the #1 ranking…ugly is right…but at this point, I’ll take every win…#allin

With only three undefeated teams left at this point, Clemson’s “bad win” over Syracuse is a lot better than the stinkers Ohio State put on Indiana and Northern Illinois. Iowa is technically undefeated but their schedule is so ludicrously pathetic as to not merit consideration. The advantage Ohio State has over Clemson is that they can pick up wins against Michigan State, Michigan, and (probably) Iowa. Meanwhile Clemson will get Wake, USC, and (probably) UNC. If both win out, Ohio State’s wins will look a lot better than Clemson’s. So I think at worst Clemson is looking at #2 if they win out, and possibly still number 1.

Normally I wouldn’t think there is any material difference in 1 or 2, but there actually might be this year. There is a good chance that Alabama will finish number 3 as the highest of the one-loss teams. Bama is a tough matchup. If Notre Dame beats Stanford and squeaks in at number 4, I think it would be a huge confidence boost for Clemson to play a team they already beat. That would be ideal – Clemson is number 1 and gets to play a Notre Dame team they’ve already defeated while OSU and Bama have to duke it out as 2/3.

IMO, the best case scenario for Clemson is actually for Michigan State and Notre Dame to win out. That way there is no question who is number 1. Then Bama, ND, and Michigan State fill out the playoff bracket. Clemson avoids a first round with Bama and ideally gets a ND team they’ve already beat, but at worst gets a Michigan State team with an exploitable secondary.

Obviously that’s contingent on Clemson winning out, and I wouldn’t count on Sparty taking out Ohio Stat

I don’t know why everyone is so scared of Bama. Clemson can score more points with less time than Bama. I think Clemson has a shot to beat anyone. Not buying any of this Clemson would be better to matchup against X.

Bama hasn’t played anyone except a mediocre SEC. Exactly where are their W’s ranked now. If Clemson wins out they will have W’s over 3 top 20 teams at the end of the season, including a W over a top 4-5. Personally I think a loss to a top 10-15 UNC and Clemson should still be in. No different record than Bama will have.

Ain’t any of those teams mentioned going to be easy. That’s why the game is played, no? Bring any of them on and let the cards fall where they may.

I never said a word about any of them being easy. I just get tired of Bama getting a free pass. It’s like people have already written their name as the favorite to win it all, and Clemson keeps reeling. Everyone talks about the team that is going to trip up Clemson, but ignores that Bama has 1 loss against a ****ty team, and still has to “play in” as well.

I personally would hate to see Clemson play Notre Dame in the playoff. It’s like the year of that Bama/LSU rematch. The game was decided in the regular season; they shouldn’t get a second chance. Neither should Notre Dame. Clemson shouldn’t have to prove they are better than Notre Dame twice. I don’t think Notre Dame should be in the final 4 discussion.

I think it’ll be OSU/Clemson at #1 and #2 at year’s end. I wouldn’t want to play an Urban Meyer coached team in a playoff, but its really the lesser of two tough teams I think. Beat OSU, then probably go on to play Alabama for the big game. There’s really no one standing in Clemson or Alabama’s way at this point. Play smart football, protect your superstars, and move on to the post season healthy. That’s what I’d be focusing on now.

What he said^^

Really? Not play and Urban Meyer coached team in the post-season? Since the WVU debacle, it would seem most teams wouldn’t want to play a Dabo Swinney coached team in the post season. He’s gotten the better of Miles, Meyer & Stoops since.

Clemson has a few dinged up players right now, lost a little focus and is on tired legs. They’ll get it back in control and get a few of these guys back prior to Sakkerliner. I have a feeling that some of these guys get a rest against WF.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I hope Gallman sits out this game, and Watson is on the bench after about 20-25 minutes.

23, are you treating the regular season as a playoff? If ND wins out, why wouldn’t they deserve a spot? What other 1 loss team would have a better argument than them, especially with their only loss to the #1 team on the road? Just curious. I thought the point of the old BCS and the today’s playoff committee was to select the BEST teams for the chance, not who we think deserves a shot. We may be headed to that kind of playoff system, but today that is not what we have. If we go by deserving and Houston wins out, then they should be in, right? Who thinks they are a top 4 team just because they are undefeated, must less want to watch that?

As salty said, I do think Clemson is a dangerous as any of them, we just don’t have the history of backing it up yet! Hopefully that changes this year.

To some extent yes. I was one of the rare ones that liked the BCS. At least I didn’t see the major negatives that most people did. There is no perfect system. Playoffs, especially when we go to 8 teams here in the next few years, will dilute the importance of a regular season contest. The regular season and the importance of each and every game is the reason we all love college football so much. I never want to get to the point of regularly having a two or even three loss champion… I like my champions undefeated or as close to it as possible.

What’s ND’s signature win? They don’t have one; they are hanging their hat on a LOSS to Clemson.

Until ND joins a conference, I have no sympathy for them and think they should be left out.

RWL, I agree and I don’t. What we have in the system is equal right and left brain arguments. which are each right, and each wrong. Good legitimate arguments each way.

So.

ND and the BIG12 will both be hurt in the final poll without having that 13th metric to measure by.

I too liked the BCS. I thought it did a great job at picking the best 2 teams.

They will have as good of wins as any of the one loss teams IMO. Their schedule will be harder than any of the other 1 loss teams and that is taking into account what those teams records are and who they played. I am not hanging it on their loss, but when it comes down to it and their record is the same as another and and say their wins are comparable, then it would come down to comparing their loss. Like we said, lots to be played yet and most of this will be worked out on the field, but it is fun discussing it.

ND won’t. I don’t like ND, but compared to the other teams I have watched played, I would give them the nod. Especially if they beat Stanford pretty good. Plus, like you said earlier, the national guys love them!!
