We’ll be there in our Sea Hunt CC, 100 Yammy 4 stroke.

Love to hear, “Let’s go fishing, Grandbuddy”!

Quick update: We are expecting a large turnout. Please, if you have not run your boat in a while, run it on the muffs at home before coming out. We will be doing all we can to launch boats as quickly as possible. If you dunk your motor and it wont start, you will be instructed to trailer and remove it immediately. Hope you all understand. We want to make this event run as smoothly as possible and one of those keys will be to not be backed up trying to launch boats.

Also, if you have room in your boat for others who would like to help, please bring a few more lifejackets to keep things legal.

Thanks in advance!

First of all, I’m back. Been absent for a bit. I’ll certainly be there.

Jason / NorthChuckTiger
Captain ( girlfriend will be at work )
3 jackets on board ( room for 2 )
Affiliated with a ton of stuff, just not fishing related.

Just a quick question for Opti… Stick with a net? What is the biggest debris? Don’t want to jack up my new landing net. Could go buy an el cheapo if needed.

Looking forward to seeing some of you guys again.

Thanks Jason! You will be amazed at the range of crap to be pulled out. It’s helpful to have something long with a net or hook or something to reach stuff. We have found a net to be the most effective tool. It’s more to pull it close so you can reach it than anything. Unless its smaller stuff then you can just bring it in the boat inside the net. Be creative

Hey guys, just as a little PSA, I saw a large utility pole floating on the Ashley earlier this week. It appeared to be hung up on north bridge public dock, but I’m sure it would ruin someone’s day if it breaks free from the dock and they ran into it at any speed. I did report it as a navigational hazard to the uscg. Just be on the lookout for it I suppose

thanks millacd. We will be far north of there, but we will be advising folks against getting on plane unless they feel comfortable. There are some trees in the middle of the creek that were put there by the floods.

I heard Optiker on the radio talking about this event on my way into work. Good stuff!

Really??? I never did a radio segment. They must have pulled it from the WCBD Midday show we did. Cool.
Here is a guest column I did for the Summerville Journal Scene. http://www.journalscene.com/article/20160311/SJ04/160319933/1050/SJ04

I’ll be posting details here soon.

2016 Ashley River Cleanup - Event Details

We would like to thank all of you for your support for this very worthy cause. This event is, and should be, all about the Ashley River.
It looks like weather will be absolutely perfect, and we are all very thankful for this bit of good luck!

A large turnout is expected, and exactly how large we won’t really know until tomorrow morning. We have requested RSVP’s from captains and from past experience response to those requests is partial, at best. We have “cast a wide net” in promoting the event, so we will see. Our committee has tried to plan for the extreme of much more than we thought. We ask for your patience, as we will all be striving to make sure things go smoothly.

The key to this event running smoothly will be how efficiently we can get folks launched and started collecting trash. PLEASE make sure your boat is in good running condition. Each boat will have less than 5 min to back down and launch. We will have volunteers with much experience launching to assist, whether backing down or parking (with your permission, of course).

When you arrive at the drive into the landing, you will be greeted by a volunteer, and told where to proceed. Vehicles without trailers will not be allowed into the parking lot - we expect to completely fill the lot with boat trailers. Please park on the side of the drive along the grass as instructed. Vehicles with boats will be instructed to pull in to the “make ready” area. This area will be two lanes side by side. Volunteers will show you were to go. Please get your boat ready to launch as quickly as possible. Don’t forget your drain plugs! When instructed, please launch as quickly as possible and bring your boat to the dock. Volunteers will help show you where to dock and help with catching your boat and dock lines.

Captains, please proceed immediately to the shelter to the Captains table. You will be given a packet with a map, some basic instructions, and given a zone number to target. This zone number

One day I hope to join you guys. I have a weekend of soccer tournament so not this year. That’s a great thing you folks are doing.

It was on 1250am and was a pre-recorded sound bite of you talking about the flooding and extra trash caused by the flood.

We picked up trash and filled 10 bags plus lots of other crap.Good work guys.

A big thank you to all who participated. I’m waiting on some specifics and will make a follow up post soon. Thanks for your support Stonoman, we knew we were legit when you showed up

Hey y’all, I’d like to say thank you to the Summerville Saltwater Fishing Club for organizing this. I know it takes a lot of planning and work to organize and pull this off. My group had a great day on the water and pulled about ten bags of crap plus other large junk out of our river. I’m sorry we missed the group at the end as we were still picking some trash on the way in around 3:00. Hopefully I will get to meet everybody on the next clean up. Judging by the amount of crap we all found we could do this more than once a year. Thanks again for all.
