Valentines day Spearfishing Report

Left out of Folley Beach SC with Lou (Sundance) Les (Megladonman) and Pete (Peterminton) and my father for a day of spearing onboard Lou’s boat Sundance. Weather was absolutely beautiful with maybe 1-2’ swells water temp about 52* . Got to the spot and anchored up and dropped the seaview camera to see what was down there. Saw lots of amberjack and a few bottom fish. Sundance and peter suited up first. Lou came up with a nice grouper and a couple bugs.
Les and I suited up and dropped on the spot. I was using my brand new spearfishing specialties 52” Rhino gun freeshafting. (no line attached) The spot we dropped on didn’t have much fish so I came up about 25’ off the bottom and took off down the ledge till I found some good looking fish. Freeshafted 2 big hogs then I spotted the big daddy holed up. There was a #15 cubera snapper right in front of him so I had to shoot from a little above. Short fight later and a 24# Hog snapper was on my stringer. Shot one more hog and grabbed a lobster last thing before ascent. This was by far the biggest hog I have ever seen let alone shot. Was really happy with that fat stringer.
Did a little bottom fishing and caught lots of black sea bass. 2nd dive Lou got a real nice doormat flounder and a big Cubera snapper. Les and I both took couple of hogs and lobster on that second dive. Saw several Sunfish. Those are some freaky looking animals.
Totals: 8 hogs, limit of lobsters, 1 doormat flounder, 1 cubera, 1 gag, and lots of black sea bass.

Had a great time guys. Love spearing on the Sundance, Thanks Lou!

Ledges in 90’-110’ Water temp isn’t too bad. I was wearing a 2mil hood/vest and a 4-3-2 one piece and was very comfortable.

I put some better pictures up of the Hog on the same link in my original post.
