Venice, Louisiana Reds

Last week I received and invite from Mark Davis of Bomber Saltwater to go down to Venice, LA for a couple of days of redfish action. Mark has been telling me for years that the fishing down there is insane and I knew this was an opportunity I could not pass up. I met Mark at his house in Columbia and we hit the road. I will break the rest of this down by day to try and give you an accurate picture of this great experience. We arrived in Venice the evening of Monday 4/19 and fished full day trips on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Monday 4/19
We arrived at Woodland Plantation just in time to check in and get ready for dinner. We were given a warm welcome by Foster Creppel, who owns and runs this awesome bed and breakfast. He was in the process of cleaning a couple of redfish to go with our meal that evening and I knew right off the bat that this guy wanted to make sure we enjoyed every detail of our stay with him. Mark told me several times not to try to eat everything at dinner that I would end up stuffed to the gills, but you guys that know me realize that I miss very few meals and love good food. We started the evening with some fresh fried redfish, oyster soup, salad, bread and then came the main course, quail stuffed with crabmeat, mashed potatoes with some great seasoning, topped all of this off with some great chocolate cake.

We were flanked by Mark Davis, Captain David Iverson of Cajun Country Fishing Guides and John Frazier from Salt Water Sportsman magazine in David’s Boat. We were told we would be fishing artificial lures on Bomber Paradise Pro Poppers. This is a popping cork with a cupped top on it and when you rip it through the water it really makes some serious noise. If you are not looking at the popper when someone else it working it the sound is just like fish feeding on the surface. We started the morning f
