Wading Flats?

I’m heading down to camp at Edisto Beach State Park this weekend, and was planning on bringing a few rods with me. I’m leaving the boat at home, so that limits me to the beach and to creeks I can access from land. Does anyone know if you can wade the flats on either side of the road when heading out to the State Park? If not, what would you guys suggest? I would love to get a little more practice with the fly rod this weekend!

Thanks,

Which park are you at? Beach or island?
I think you can Wade the grass flats behind the beach campground

We are at the Beach Park, but about a mile away from the actual beach. I think those are the flats that I was asking about.

I’m trying to scout using Google Earth, but I really don’t have any experience wading flats.

Catching reds tailing there is over for the year. There may be some cruising fish, but it will be VERY difficult on foot to see any fish. You are better off wading (slogging) around at low tide and fishing the deeper holes.

Tall grass usually means deep mud. Don’t wade there. If the grass is head tall, the mud is usually neck deep. Short grass you can wade in.
