hit the beach since i couldnt hitch a ride offshore. paddled out my first horse mullet and before i could get back to the beach hooked up on this ~35" ish red. first big one from the surf this year. paddled out and drifted a duster with a FM and stinger and got nothing on the color change nor did i see much activity, and rest of the day was slow, with a few whiting and little rays as well as a nice trout, but since a fellow CF’er caught me on the beach i figured i better share. hit a flat on the way back and got 2 more reds on a weedless DOA and missed a sheep. awfully nice day.
surfwrangler - It was a bit dishearting to see you leaving the beach when I got there. As I feared, the bite stayed off after you left, despite the close -to -perfect conditions.
Surfwrangler, I was out Last Sunday as well as Wednesday too. Sunday caught 1 37" red and one finetooth (about 4 footer), along with numerous breakoffs (sharks). Wednesday, sealed the deal on 3 reds all in the 26" range. Just curious what tide is working for you? Ours were caught around the turn of the low tide.
1st 2 hours of rising was the best even though the troughs were not that deep and i would have figured they would push in with the incoming tide.
I used to prefer high tide on Folly because I figure the gamefish hang by the rocks. Looks like I will have to change to low tide.
