Weird thing

Went gigging Friday night and gigged some flounder. To top it off, I gigged two triple tail and one of them was tagged. Can I get a triple tail t-shirt for that? What other species are tagged by SCDNR? I have caught three tagged reds but that’s all. I will send in info but I doubt he was ever caught and released. We shall see…

It was at least one time.

i’m jealous… we get fewer up here in charleston and i really want to check them off my hook-and-line list. have seen a 5lb and know of a 12lb caught in the harbor, and saw a real nice one just offshore back in june. if the tag says SCDNR, that fish was almost certainly tagged by same people that mr wildlifesc went out with- the estuarine finfish section out of Fort Johnson. they’ll tag tripletail, sheepshead, redfish, black drum… stripers if they get them… no trout or flounder, as they don’t take tags very well. i know that georgia conducts some tagging/monitoring of them too.

yes, you can get a shirt. no, it will not have a tripletail on it

Congrats on the tripletail! I had a friend gig one last week near Calibogue Sound ( not tagged). When you get report on where it was originally tagged, please update you post . Thanks.:sunglasses:

It may surprise you as to how many are around. The biggest i have caught was 28 pounds.

holy cow, i didn’t even know they got that big… had to look up the state record to see if you were BSing me!

33.8lbs, hilton head, 2005!

i have seen a few north of charleston that looked to be the size of rubbermaid trash can lids, just never when i had a chance to fish them.
