The parents of our exchange student will be coming from Norway for a visit. Planned to take then to Fripp Island to do some fishing. Being from Norway, for them, I’m confident, the water will be considered warm.
But, what can I expect to be happening in the surf on a normal year? I understand that it all depend on the temps that particular year, but on the average …, and unfortunately I do not get to the coast enough to remember when things start heating up. Most of my trips are summer to late fall.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
TIA

Hit or miss decent action. Ill be surf fishing by then and so will many others so check in for reports.
As 40 said around April is when most surf fishers start to knock the dust off and get back out fishing. Reds can be had that time of the year. Look back in the history and you will see what folks have caught in the past. Shrimp on double drop rigs, cut bait as well. Mr. Parkers big red in his avatar was landed in March. Good luck Sir.
Some of my best surf fishing days over the years have been in April. Big whiting, some trout and decent sized blues. I’ll be glad when it’s here.

of course the whiting will show up, but ive also caught bull reds and bonnetheads from the surf at sullivans island near breach inlet that time of year. it can be hit or miss of course, but the potential is there. havent been there in years, but there used to be a sandbar around station 30 that i pulled a nice 36" red from. if i remember right either a big chunk of mullet of piece of whiting was bait.
Still is huge gully and sand bar at station 30. The biggest I’ve seen around here.
