What I know is I don’t know. They say East the least, West the best. I’ve tried for years to develop patterns so I can be more successful at fishing. What is the best time, what is the best day, what is the best place, what winds, and so on… The pattern is sometimes when days look great, that I walk away with very little, and when days shouldn’t be that productive, I have a great day sometimes. There’s really no crystal ball, and my conclusion is to go, and go often, and when mother nature feels like coughing up a few, I will be there. I hit it Sunday with family and was thinking with NE winds and recent storm water would be dirty and probably not productive. I was wrong. The family ventured out and we fished the out going tide. Started with cut fresh shrimp and nothing for about an hour and a half. Finally caught a nice blue and cut that up and deployed my rods. Things really picked up and from this point forward and the action was great. Their were pods of dolphin and black tips getting airborne smashing bait off the beach. We landed a bunch of nice blues, a bunch of black drum, a bunch of whiting and 10 reds, with 3 or 4 being nice size. I had a monster red on that we lost, I handed it over to my 11 yr old and he did his best and almost beached it, but it got away in the shallows. Was it a mistake to pass the rod to the young man, I think not. He will get him next time. Got another funny story, as I was walking by an impoundment going to fetch a golf cart I noticed a bunch of 30-35 inch reds swimming in a circle around the entrance. They were a ton of them, and they were huge. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I continued walking and saw a guy fly fishing down the road a bit. I told him what I saw and he needed to go over there. I jumped in the strangers cart and took him to the spot, they were still circling in front of the pipe. He casted his fly and wham-caught a 35 inch red on 15lb test. He thanked me and that was that. The tide was dumping out the impoundment, with the fish on the inside of it hav

Too bad it wasn’t Military Appreciation Day, the soldiers would have enjoyed that:smiley: Hopefully we can get the volunteers needed for the surf fishing trip to Morris Island. Praying.
Way to go Pete! We stayed home Sunday , guess I should have gone out. Sounds like the bite was on.
Nice Catching Pete !
It’s never a mistake to pass the rod to a kid. This slightly cooler weather has really turned them on I think. I went out to Sullivan’s and fished around the rocks late Saturday for just a couple of hours and managed 9 small reds and 3 flounder. The water was alive with mullet and small reds busting bait. Yesterday was a beach day with extended family at Kiawah. I didn’t take any rods, and I should have. Bait fish, and schools of blues were running past us as we played in the water, which was fairly clear. Catch 'em up !

good job man!
glad yall had a good day. Never a mistake about passing the rod. More will be caught. PLus it’s experience for him.
Needing one of those days soon haha.
Pete after looking at your photos, it appears that you are fishing on or near a point where the surf meets an inlet.
I know of a place that looks very similar to that on another island I used to fish years ago and caught some nice reds. I’m going to have to try it again sometime.

Nice haul sir! Teaching the young ones lessons of a lifetime and creating memories. I look forward to it when my little guys is big enough. Great to see some good fall action this early in the season.
