WHAT IS IT?

Caught it in the minnow trap, and it bit the snot out of me. It’s about 3" long. I assume it’s immature.

I don’t know the name , but I have caught those in Ft Pierce, FL by the jetty. I used them for cut bait. Yeah they do bite…LOL. I going to look it up.

I tried to find it but had no luck. Maybe someone will know the name.

No. We think it’s a Blenny.

Steve,
Send the pic to DNR - I caught something @ Edisto 40 long time ago, sent them the pic, and they told me what is was.

EWC

You gotta love the South Carolina Lowcountry.

I have. Robert Wiggers thinks it’s a Blenny. Haven’t heard from Amy Dukes yet. But Robert is pretty sure about this.

If it is the same thing I caught the Blenny does not match. It’s head is to round.I caught it in FL and the jaw is different but it may not be the same thing.

So, Phil, what do you think it is?

snakehead

KNOTHEAD

I don’t know but the pics posted just don’t look like the same fish. I have been searching but have not found anything. The ones that I caught were all about that size. I have emailed a friend of mine in FL to see if he might know. Now it has turned into a mission.

Baby snakehead.

Catfish

After much ado, it has been determined that it is a Fishgod Blenny that is indigenous to these waters. I’ve fished these waters all my life, and I’m an old fart, and I’ve never seen one. But I don’t normally catch 3" fish. Dang it, I wanted to have a Japanese nature!! Thanks guys for all the info. It’s been fun.

Yes, I think the mystery is solved. The picture looks right. I agree it has been fun.

Guess this one is the same thing but of the gamecock variety?

I HAVE SPENT MOST OF MY LIFE FISHING AND WASTED THE REST OF IT!

The blennys are running wild.
