What is your favorite Thanksgiving items???

The Thanksgiving bug is biting me hard and I am thinking this might be a great way for everyone to get some ideas. I would really appreciate everyones help. Even if you do not have/know the recipe.

Sidedishes:</font id=ā€œblueā€> The classic green bean casserole
Ingredients:
1 (10 3/4 oz.) can CAMPBELL’S Cream of Mushroom Soup
3/4 cup milk
1/8 tsp. black pepper
2 (9 oz. each) pkgs. frozen cut green beans, thawed*
1 1/3 cups FRENCH’S Original or Cheddar French Fried Onions

Directions:
MIX soup, milk and pepper in a 1 1/2 -qt. baking dish. Stir in beans and 2/3 cup French Fried Onions. BAKE at 350F for 30 min. or until hot. STIR. Top with remaining 2/3 cup onions. Bake 5 min. until onions are golden.

Dessert:</font id=ā€œblueā€> Deep fried peaches
Blanch peaches, cut in half and remove seed.
Ingredients:
brown sugar
cinnamon
nutmeg
crushed pecans

Mix brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg in it own container, put the crushed pecans in their own container. Take the peaches and toss them in the brown sugar mixture. Put them in the crushed pecans and press lightly to get as many pecans on the peach without mushing the peaches. Deep fry until outside is crispy/done. Take your deep fried peaches and put a scoop of french vanilla icecream on top.

Meat:</font id=ā€œblueā€> Applewood smoked turkey/deepfried turkey. This is such hard one for me. There are a ton of other options out there as well.

Best regards,

Saw a hotel advertising a T-giving buffet for $9.95 out near the airport. May hit that when they open the doors, come home, put on my lounging slacks, and start prepp’n for a real dinner.

Brine your turkey in a bottle of apple juice and about 1/2 cup of kosher salt for 24 hours and then applewood smoke it. Saw that on the weber web site and have been doing it ever since then.

fresh pecan and old fashion apple pie. MUST have plenty of home made whip cream or Bryers Natural Vanilla ice cream on hand.

I enjoy my Father-in-laws stuffed mushrooms before the dinner… He does a variety some with just cheese, some with some kind of seafood mixture, some with sausage and stuffing, … He’ll come up with something new again this year along with the tried and true.

To sum up my favorite… I like it all!

My family is going to a cabin up in Boone for Thanksgiving this year, I plan on bringing a load of pecans up there with me and make a mess pies.

O.P. Baby…Oyster Pie

def. oyster pie

Grandmamma’s dressing. She’s long gone but that dressing recipe is still going and its dang good vittles. Add in some giblet gravy and a proper roasted turkey, rice and cranberry sauce. End it off with some chocolate wine pound cake, pecan (pronounced PEEEE can) pie and wash it all down with good ole southern sweet tea.

Edit to add, if and when the first mention of stuf@$%^ is brought up, this topic should be closed and buried forever.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

ā€œPEEEEE canā€ is something you use in a shooting house.

Whole green beans wrapped in bacon, marinated in Catilina dressing and broiled till bacon crisp. And I will agree with you on Grandma’s dressnin with giblet gravey!!!

My house is protected by God and a gun, Ill introduce you to them both if you show up unwelcomed.

Reckon I wouldn’t expect anyone with Mississippi in their handle to know how to speak anyway.

WOW! Penny you are so awesome. Thanks for what you bring to all of us! Happy Thanks Giving to you and your family!

[:I]…ahhhh thats so nice…and glad I could help…hope you all enjoy some of the recipes…the refrig biscuit recipe while a little detailed makes some of the best light yeast roll like biscuits you’ll ever taste…and like i wrote…dough will keep in refrig for at least 5 days if not more…I always double the recipe for the holidays so its available fro breakfast and snacks…

Thanksgiving is such a wonderful time…and while I love Christmas…it seems that the ā€œTrue meaningā€ of Christmas has somehow been lost in all of the ā€œtrappingsā€ and commercial aspects of what ā€œChristmasā€ has now become to many…Thanksgiving to me is more of a ā€œfamily timeā€ā€¦a time to get together and appreciate the comfort of being home with family and friends. A time to say ā€œThanksā€ for our many blessings.
Many of us have lost loved ones this past year( and in years past),(Miss you Stan:frowning_face:) and we miss them even more during the Holiday season when we take time to gather with those we love. There will always be a sadness when we think of them. I hope that everyone will take just a minute to reach out to a old friend or family member that you have been ā€œmeaning to callā€ā€¦ for we never know if we will ever get another chance to do so. Stop and Say thanks to a soldier or his/her family , a Veteran of past wars, our firefighters, police officers, medics ,pastors…do something nice for a stranger, or elderly person who lives near you…say good morning to someone you dont know with a big ol’ southern smile…no matter how tough things may seem at times…I think we will all agree that we are more fortunate than many…and blessed to have family and friends to share the Holidays with when so many dont. Take Care!

oh yeah…and please say a special prayer for Russ’s (Top2bottom’s) sister becca who is in the hospital…and for our men and women overseas…keep them safe bring them home!! We were blessed that Benjamin is now home again in alaska with his family…and although we wont see him…he is with his wife and children

Thanks Penfishn! All those look great! Needed a Sweet Potato Casserole recipe for this Thanksgiving to go along with the fried turkey!
