What kind of person...

What kind of person would run a 2 year old and his dad off of a dock? I have privileged passcode to a gated condo on the Ashley and got permission to fish as long as we cleaned our mess and respected the dock. Christmas Eve I bought my oldest son a new fishing rod and my little boy wanted to go as well. I always dress well when I go to the dock so as not to present myself as white-trash washed ashore and have great conversations with some of the older folks who walk their dogs to the end of the pier. Apparently, one man in particular, is quite pissed when we fish the community dock and had my sons and I run off. He is a younger man, maybe early 50’s. I guess when you’re wealthy you get a little cold hearted? I can honestly say that, no matter what my net worth, I couldn’t possibly run a man off of a dock who is taking a kid fishing. I don’t like taking my sons to the local places where the drunks and drug addicts hang out. Finally, I’d like to say, the jokes on you, you d-bag. Look for me to be anchored off right next to your dock more often. You didn’t ruin my trip. You ruined it for 2 kids who just wanted to get a line wet. Am I wrong for feeling bitter towards this person?..

Tell us all where the dock is and we can really get the man upset. Post the code also

Probably a jealousy thing. Bulow landing is not as rough as it used to be, catch the out going tide and you’ll have some room on the bank to fish. Much funner watching and helping kids fish when they are biting than doing it yourself. IMO. Don’t rule out some surf fishing, the Beach crowd is mostly gone now. If the fish aren’t biting plenty of stuff to find washed up on the shore for the kids to find entertainment in.

It sounds like you think you are entitled to use other peoples’ private property. Maybe you’d understand his motives if you had your own property and had to constantly deal with trespassers, litterers, drunks, and other folks that think they are entitled to use it at their will. I would suspect that the person who gave you the combo was breaking the rules they are supposed to abide in their condo horizontal property regime. If you want to fish that dock, buy a condo there.

Palmetto, I’m in no way entitled. I asked a member of management while doing some ROUTINE (Quarterly) work and they said it was fine. I guess what really gets me is while fishing one day he came down to join me and my son. We were packing up and leaving so I gave him a quick report i.e. no fish. When we were walking away he hooked one up and called for my son to run down and “help reel him in.” That was BEYOND nice of the guy! And my 2 year old SURELY loved it! The last few times out I even dumped the remainder of minnows into his bucket. Small token, but a token none-the-less. Just seems like all of a sudden our presence is not welcome. And I’ve been out there on the best days and the worst and I have never seen anyone out there that wasn’t supposed to be so it’s not a hot-spot of trespassers. I get that it is an exclusivity of that property, but how much trouble am I going to get in to with my 2 year old?.. I keep the place cleaner that I left it and even fish trash out of the weeds that has washed in. I thought about buying a condo there, but the fishing is no good :flushed:

That’s why they call it fishing, not catching…

You are way out of line on this one, WTF is your problem. The man described the situation and it has nothing to do with “tresspassers, litterers or drunks”

I agree with you Ivy! Seems that someone pissed in his corn flakes this morning! Way to start off the new year, PB

I have to say that I agree with Palmetto Bug

He had permission from management and he apparently also does work for the in some capacity.

The question I have is, who exactly ran you off, and why didn’t you drop the names of the management? If you were in the right, stand your ground. Don’t be a jerk about it, but stand your ground.

How did he even know, that you didn’t live there, or weren’t a guest?

I told him the managers name, but, apparently he’s not the one in charge. The head manager ran me off. I’m not trying to start anything. I just think that the guy who ran to the manager could’ve just told me he personally didn’t want me there. Like I said, he was super nice the first time we met, but just got nastier the more we seen each other. I never keep the fish at that dock either. It’s okay, really… I can fish anywhere on the river. It was just a nice quiet spot for me to enjoy some time with my son. Thanks for the support though guys!

He asked and I was honest…

Dustin, let it go! What goes around, comes around! Maybe some day, you’ll see him broke down, on the side of the road:smiley:

Lol! I’d still help him. Kill em with kindness they say…

Dustin, people are just plain mean sometimes. I work in retail management and I just got through the crazy holiday season where I was cussed out and talked to like I was a mangy dog… It’s during a time of year it’s not supposed to be that way. Sorry it happened.

There is an obvious explanation - the guy who ran y’all off is not a fisherman.

No, I’d say that the person that ran him off, has no kids!

I think Easy and mikeyloo nailed it. No kids, no fisherman = crabby guy.

Did he not want you there? Or did he not want anyone that didn’t live there on the docks? The old guy may have simply asked the manager to enforce the rules - it may not be a personal issue at all.

Well, it turns out he was indeed trespassing if the person who gave him permission was not authorized. Maybe not knowingly but he was a trespasser on private property. People buy into private gated communities exactly because they don’t want to have to deal with the public. Public facilities inevitably attract litterers and drunks. The condo owner was well within his rights to run him off.

How would you feel if you had a private dock and your lawn maintenance guy was inviting people to use it?
