Was out at the pier the other day and came across this feller who had this custom rod. Wasn’t sure if this was new Penn Slammer ‘wood’ edition or what??? Even had a custom wooden spool, with a graphite type handle for reeling in the big one. Not sure of the max drag though.
That 1:1 gear ratio on that reel will be great for cranking in tuna…I’ll take a set of 5!

That my friends is a homemade no stab pier gaffe. looks like you could lower the loop and haul the big ones up to the pier with that. Either that or it’s a carpenter’s kid fishing pole.
I’m pretty sure it’s a heavy action rod.
