Robinhood dont know to much but that boat looks like it would beat you to death.Fishman I like the Luhrs but I need a boat I can trailer and gets a little fuel mileage those 454’s would need a loan to go fish. Not trying to be negative just realistic guys.I have people to fish just about every time I go thats what makes it possible I pay for boat, have all tac kle and bait they just get fuel, oil so I trie to make easy as possible.Would like to get capt’s license try to help pay for boat just a thought.

quote:Hooked, Although I've never been on one, I dont think that would be the case. These boats are used primarily in the North East. It does get quite snotty up there. They are used commercially, as charters, by guides and average fishermen. A fellow I spoke to back on LI owns the 1890 Skiff and he makes trips across LI Sound to Connecticut with his. I was just trying to give you some options that you may or may not be aware of. But from most of the posts here, I can see that your looking for something more prestigious. Good luck, hope you find what your looking for.

3000 RPM doing 20 Knots getting 1 nautical miles per gallon
3200 RPM doing 22 knots getting .9 nautical miles per gallon
3500 RPM doing 24 Knots getting .6 nautical miles per gallon

Don’t under estimate a 28 to 32 foot boat with twin 225s to 250s in cost either. Plan on 1 to 1.5mpg loaded ready to fish. Not sure what kind of truck you have but you will need an Heavy duty of some type. And those ever so fun triple axel trailers. 6 tires and 6 sets of bearings. 3 gallons of oil if you go with 2 strokes.
Figure $600 a trip if nothing breaks.

Triple axel trailers like straight lines. The turns kill the tires. You basically drag them side ways. We honestly wear tires more in the 68 miles from manning to Gt than we did on the whole 1800 mile venice trip due to the sharp turns we have to make. Dry storage in Chas will cost you about $14 a foot. I would rather deal with the trailer but I like tinkering with stuff at home so it works well to have it close by.
THe cummins will pull it fine.

Here is the stats on the 28 grady btw.

You don’t seemed interested in the go fast boats. contender fountain yellowfin. You don’t want the NE boat. So is the search narrowed to BW GW and pursuit?

How fast is fast, more for comfort.

Difference in BW and Contender is speed. The BW is wider and will tend to roll less but does not like to run as fast. The contender is narrow with a deep v and performs best when running on top of the waves. Now that being said my father rides in the back on a bean bag his first priorty is comfort. You can run faster with the same level of comfort in a contender/fountain/regulator/etc than BW/GW etc. Understanding this in not apples to apples we had a 24 scout with a single F225 before the 31 contender and running to the stream we ranged from 14 to 22mph. Yes the boat would run faster but most days kept us in this range. The same seas in the contender equal 30 to 40mph. It will run faster but you tend to jump out of the water more and dad complains when the props vent, it wakes him up from his nap.
It obviously took a while longer to get to the stream and longer home. Crew seemed to drag more on the longer ride when it came time to fish. Fuel burn was nice on the Scout thought 60 to 70 gallons for a gulf stream trip. The Contender with 2 strokes was about 150 to 160 gallons and now with the 4strokes 125 to 135 gallons.
I have never riden in a 28 grady but I would guess you will burn more fuel than a go fast of the same lenght but once you get to the fishing grounds you will have more room. Room is nice.
I have riden with hard core contender guys that run wide open everywhere they will beat you if you run them hard enough like everything will. The boats are built solid and will take the beating even if the crew can’t.
If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you’ve got an electrical problem.
The 28 Grady is my new means a speed demon. It cruises comfortably at 30 mph and burns between 1.7 and 1.9 mpg on smooth water loaded with 200 gallons. A full day off shore and we are burning about 100-110 gallons with the trip meter coming in between 140-160 miles. Boat is great trolling or bottom fishing and has plenty of room
