What to pack? Edisto Island

Flying down on the 25th for 4 nights and staying at the Wyndham Ocean Ridge with the wife. Starting to pack the fishing gear. From Nebraska but have collected saltwater gear for over 30 years. I’m bringing a 7ft med action spinning rod with 10lb braid and 7’6" freshwater heavy spinning rod with 30lb braid. Lots of terminal tackle for surf fishing that I feel OK about. More concerned about lures, jigs, plastics, gulp, etc… Sounds like there is a place or two to buy tackle and bait there. Was thinking of bringing a cast net and minnow trap? I have a big suit case that I bring! I hope to fish a lot and still remain married. Any random thoughts of other things to do or favorite places to eat or drink in the area. Love fishing new places and meeting fellow fisherman. Thanks for any advise.

i usually go to Edisto one week out of the year normally before school lets out in may. Basically what i do is use a top and bottom rig with small hooks and small fish bites and shrimp to catch whiting or whatever will bite. once i catch some whiting i usually cut them in 2" chunks and put them on a bigger hook with a wire leader in hopes of catching some shark… that has been my process for the last few years and the kids and i usually have a great time catching 2.5’ sharpnose… so i would say some small wire leader, crimps and a crimping tool would be something i wouldnt leave home without… bait shops on the island are descent as far as the bare essentials but they dont really cater to surf fishing type angler… we always walk down to jeremys inlet for shells at low tide its pretty cool… i havent fished it much but i have heard of people having luck there… i too would be interested in some spots to stick a minnow trap or throw a cast net. Cant help you on the staying married part… have fun brother

One more thing… my castable shark setup is hook- 2’ wire leader- swivel- sinker slider on the main line. heave it as far as you can and loosen up the drag and stick it in the rod holder and wait for it to scream… i have always had better luck at night and less people is a plus… Edisto is a great place to Relax and catch a few fish

Thanks

One suggestion to the above; rather than using a slider, fix your weight so that it doesn’t slide. There’s less chance of gut hooking fish. We fix our weights followed by 6” to 9” of leader material then a circle hook. You could make up a 24” rig all out of wire for sharks.
Happy fishing and tight lines.
