Came down for 5 nights and found Dockside a new place on the inside. None of the old servers were there and the salad bar was missing. Heard through the grapevine that most of the staff moved over to The Pavillion. I can say there was nobody at Dockside while we were there. We shared the view with one other couple. Waterfront and The Pavillion were doing a great business every night.
Ate a couple sundays ago at the pavillion and saw Boochie Fontaine runnin around the kitchen and dining room. Wondered what was going on myself.
Dockside is under new ownership - they are trying to convert it to “upscale” restaurant. Have not heard any great reviews yet!

You gotta love the South Carolina Lowcountry.
Sorry to hear that. Grilled Snapper and Fried Shrimp with tip was $50.00. That was with one glass of tea and a glass of nasty water. Snapper was OK. For some reason it had been marinated in teryaki sauce. Veggies were cooked to a colorless mess. Saw three different parties come up the steps, look around and then leave. At one time all the locals were boycotting The Pavillion. Is that still going on. I will be back in 5 weeks and looking for some more good food. Must say that Waterfront and The Jungle Hut met our needs while there last week.
I have spent most of my life fishing.
The rest has been wasted.
Steve,
I went there back in March… it was just OK, certainly not the ole Dockside… no salad bar/fish stew…can’t remember his name, but he sold the Bucks pizza and leased, or bought out Boochie (I think)

Ok, now that everyone is interested in “What’s up at Dockside”, let me explain exactly how everything has gone down. I’m Darrin Moore, I was contacted by Boochie last May about leasing Dockside. After years of hard work and dedication, he was tired of the stresses of owning and running a bar and restaurant. I agreed to lease the building and purchase his inventory to continue the Dockside tradition. Due to certain situations, his only other option at the time was to layoff his employees and close. Being a long-time resident of Edisto and a regular customer of Dockside, I welcomed the challenge.
As for all the Dockside Employees leaving and going to Pavilion. That is simply not true, I have a number of employees that are still here and have been here for over 30 years. Yes, some followed Boochie to Pavilion when he decided to go work there, and I wish them the best. That holds true usually when a manager, or owner changes, does reflect on the manager or owner, usually just illistrates the employee or employees are not open to change. I’ve heard a number of rumors floating around about Dockside. The funniest one I’ve heard so far was that I was evicted about a month ago, however I’m in Dockside now typing this message, so that didn’t happen. I wish Boochie the best at whatever he does, I’ve known him for years and would do anything for him, and am still good friends with him. The rumors and comments are starting to get old though.
It’s easy to be a keyboard cowboy and sit behind a screen and say things about people, places or things in general because it’s always a one-sided conversation. I will say this about my food we offer here, it’s good. It’s much better than it’s been. I know because I’m ordering better quality food. The fish stew, we still have it, it’s a Dockside thing. We will always have it. The specials we offer, are great. If I came into Dockside and ordered two entree’s and paid, as one would say $50.00, and wasn’t satisfied, I’d ask for a manager, or better yet the owner. I wouldn’t post a comm
I will come give u a try when down this summer.

Thanks for coming by Scott, let me know when you come back.
Darrin, Thank you for excellent response about your new business. We have avoided Dockside for years because of a bad experience, but it seems we need to give it another try. We live on Yonges Island so finding a good eatery is important. I will ask for you when we come in. Regards, Mike.

I am the thread starter and first off, No, I did not leave a $13 tip. My check was for around $45 and I left a $5 tip because I thougt the service was lackluster at best. I have been coming there for years and did not recognize anyone in the place. First off the price for the Snapper would have been fair if it tasted like Snapper. It only had a marinade taste. The “steamed” veggies were cooked to mush and were colorless. The bread was stale a week ago. I could not even bite it. I left both on the plate. The hushpuppies on both plates were hard as a rock. Way over cooked. My wife said her shrimp were as good as last time. I only drink water when eating out, my health choice, and I was given a glass of tap water that had not been through a filtration system. If it has your filtration system needs cleaning.
I do wish you the best. I am a business owner myself and my motto is “We exisit at the pleasure of our customers”. Time will tell.
Lastly, I posted on this forum because this is the only place I can get good honest answers about Edisto even if it is not about fishing.
I have spent most of my life fishing.
The rest has been wasted.
I have enjoyed Docksides food before the new management, and the food is even better now. I have never had a problem with food or service.
Like the owner stated hopefully you will give it another try.
Dockside is a great place to eat and enjoy the bar!!!
Hey Darrin!!!
I know I told you last night, but I wanted to come on a fishing forum and say it. The food and service was great!!! Especially like the new chicken cordon bleu bites. Dockside is great!!
Appreciate the comments folks, even the ones I don’t agree with. Anyway, if anyone comes to Dockside and isn’t 100% satisfied, ask for Heather, Jamie, or myself and one of us will, without hesitation, do everything we can to make it right. That’s just how I do business. Things do sometimes happen, that’s just business, but If we don’t know, we can’t fix it.
