Where do ya’ll snorkel/spearfish/free dive here. I went to the jetties and water just wasn’t that clear.
Way way way out where the water does get clear.
Like how many miles and how deep is it?
Well man Im trying to find people to go out with. Found a couple but they all scuba dive. They said they are going to be in 100ft of water. Which isnt bad if I was Freediving with a buddy. But I read a report of a guy in 180ft of water. I think you have to go out like 30 miles or more. Maybe less depending on the time of year.
Not much of a freedive community here because the majority of big fish worth shooting start in 75’+. Go get certified advanced open water, pickup some (good) dive gear, and send me a PM and I can get you out to where the fish are :).

Kayak, SCUBA, or both.

Depth depends on what you are after and how bad the waves are. Never really dive less than 60’ here so you will need your advanced open water certification which is pretty easy. I got certified through Charleston Scuba and they were great to work with; just don’t talk about spearfishing because they are fish-huggers. They know I spearfish but they tolerate me anyways because I always give them great photos and reports and spend money in their shop. If you are over 175lbs like me then you may want 120 CU FT tanks because they let you stay down longer. No need to have a friend get certified with you. You will do the certification as part of a small class and you will make friends in the process. You will do two pool dives before you ever get out into salt water.

are you saying that you can freedive 100 ft get down shoot a fish and get back up farthest i have free dove was 35 feet stay down for about a min then come up for a breath if you can go down 100 you are by far a fish but i call bs
I’m so Charleston i got spanish moss on my balls!!
100 feet is not an impossible goal to reach if you train for it, you can’t expect to get past 35-40 feet if you are just the normal yahoo on here with no cardiovascular endurance and do not properly train. Myself, well I guess I classify as a yahoo because the deepest I can get comfortably is 42 feet. My goal was to freedive down to 60 feet by summers end but I did not work on it this summer so I’m not there yet. When I was in France, I had some friends there who could freedive down to 120’ with what seemed like little effort.
Ok, well I dont know how to put photos on here. Um… Lets try this. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=94197&id=597052213&l=c6fd293212
But NO. Im saying I can dive deeper if I have to. Like most things in life its 80% mental and training. Here I am in Hawaii (2007) freediving the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YO-257 multiple dives all day to get those photos. Dont forget, the human body is an amazing piece of engineering.

Hahahahaha! YEEEESSSSS!!!
Hit me up! I cant do tanks very well anyway cuz of some issues I have with my body. I havent freedove since May but it never really leaves you after you have been doing it for awhile. 8433773154 txt or call. Right now my car isnt running but soon it will roar. Im off of Dorchester road and I have a car on most weekends.
I went to that site but no one seemed too interested…
yeah sorry bout that, i think you will need to keep an eye on it, they have get togethers from time to time, and maybe that will get you in the “circle of trust” (Meet the Parents:) i wish i could find some of these people flash them back to when they first started or moved here, and were in need of a little info. this whole internet thing makes sharing information a lot eaiser than phone calls, and letters, etc… some people just get lazy and decide not to even type a message. I was interested in spearfishing and i posted on that site long ago, not a lot of replies.
I think its just the states man. When I was overseas my email box and missed call log was blown out of the water. I couldnt even keep up with all the people who were asking me to tag along. Scuba isnt fun for me but I guess I might have to save some pennies and get some used good gear just to eat something other than rice every night.
if you want to be able to freedive well, go to Freedive Instructors International website and sign up for a class in Flordia. Me and a friend/local charter captain did the intermediate course in July. It is well worth the money and taught by the current world record freediver, at 402 ft deep, on his own air, Martin Stephanik is a bad ass dude. There is alot to learn with freediving and it makes you never want to strap the tanks on every again…
I already been taught by him and many others. Ya, he is one of the best ones to go learn from. Highly recommended by me. I broke down and got scuba gear anyhow so I can get out and get some food for the table. Maybe meet some guys that like to fish and stuff.
