So me and my buddy have had fairly good luck fishing around iop. We’ve caught a few five footers and below. Itching for a bigger fish. I’ve heard good things about the south end of folly any other places we should try or should I stay at iop?
Stick with iop, use bigger bait further out.
KillinR gave good advice. For the most part big bait means big fish. Just hope your running big enough gear. Just keep in mind though that you will have to weed through a bunch of smaller sharks before you find that monster. IOP holds some big sharks, I know a couple folks that have put 10ft plus toothies on the beach there. Most were caught on less than 200yds drops. Good luck and fish hard. What kinda gear are you running?
6/0 and 9/0s. Plenty of line on each about 750yards on both. Yea we have gotten lots of smaller ones so were just gonna keep trying. I usually drop it 2-300yards out depending on how bad the babies are. We bought some king mackerel heads and I have a stingray wing that I’m gonna give a go.
Sorry mfred, didn’t realize I had spoke to you on here the other day. I knew what ya’ll are running. Sounds good just have to keep at it until you hook a monster. Also look at things like navigation charts and maps. I haven’t figured it out quite yet but some spots will have certain features that tend to hold big sharks more than others. Find a few spots and fish them hard. Eventually you will figure when and where the fish will be at those spots. If they hold big sharks you will find them. But, keep in mind tha . Sharks don’t necessarily just stay in one place but will frequent places that hold fish. I’ll try to get up with you and your buddy when I get back from Florida for a little fishin’. Can’t promise a monster but we can give it a heck ofa try .
the last big one i caught (7 foot sandbar) was on a king mackerel head. if theres one to be found you have a good chance at it! im running a 9/0 with about 700 yards of line and had no trouble with it either. biggest thing you need for catching big sharks is patience. wont always get one every trip, but when you do, its well worth it.
