Planning a 1 day surf fishing trip sometime in the next couple of weeks. Probably going to try Sullivan’s. Will be coming from I-26.
I just wanted to know the best options for bait. Fresh shrimp would be good. Preferably a place that opens at 7:00 or earlier. Open on Sunday may be a plus as well.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations that you can offer.
You will have to drive right pas Haddrell’s Point. They usually have live shrimp and mud minnows.

If you have a cast net finger mullet and cut mullet are excellent baits and easily caught right now .
The only place that I know of that you can buy fresh shrimp that are not the live ones from Haddrels at 7 am in the morning in the Mt. Pleasant area is Whole Foods. They would likely hit you up for 14-15 a pound. I can make a pound last all day if I catch a whiting or blue to beef it up with. Like 40 said fresh mullet in the cast net is the deal, but is no guarantee off the beach. If you try that route it is important to bring a back up of fish bites, so your trip is not ruined if you don’t score any fresh stuff off the beach. Good luck.
Probably the best tip I’ve seen lately is the don’t go with out bait. Good catch. I was meaning get the shrimp and bring the net. A lot of black drum in the surf and the love shrimp and the orange clam fish bites.
Go to Shem Creek Park to catch your fresh bait then head to Sullivan’s island. Throw the net off the bridges into the channels or off the boat dock towards the end.
Rocks out at breech hold baits too. Gonna have to try Shem park Stevo, thanks. Baits are important:smiley:
Thank you all for the input. It is appreciated.
I will post a report after the trip.
Just stocked up on bait. Few casts on the mt. pleasant pier at the very beginning did the trick. Schools of hundreds rolling through constantly.
