Hello to all. My name is Mike and I’m new to edisto marina. I have been reading the threads on CF.com and finally decided to become a member. I was wondering where the best spot to buy bait and tackle such as bally-hoo is. I realize I will probably have to travel close to Charlestown. Hope to meet some of you at the captains meeting May 14 for the kick off of the Governers cup.

wow, I can’t believe nobody’s replied to this yet. That being the case, I’ll give it shot for what it’s worth. I haven’t been there lately so this info may be tainted.
There are 3 places that I know of; the marina, Edisto Watersports on Jungle road near the entrance to the golf course, and the place on Jungle road that rents bikes and stuff. Sorry I can’t remember that name. It used to be that none of these places opened before about 9, which for me made fishing at Edisto sometimes frustrating. I don’t know what it’s like now.

You may also try the Horizon staion on Hwy 176 next to the BBQ Cafe.
Another suggestion is if you are coming in through Charleston is to stop at Wal Mart. They usually have a good saltwater section of tackle including frozen bait.
Bennetts point also sometimes has bait.

Thanks for the reply. It will be useful info, especially the sources other than the marina. I talked to the marina and they said there was a possibility they might run low on bait, due to the upcoming tourney. My best bet, as the boy scouts say, would be to “be prepared”. In my very limited experience at Edisto, I’ve noticed you just can’t drop in the local shop and pick up a 5 lb. cake of momoi, a dozen offshore lures and a new hat all at the same time. I’m not saying this is a bad thing; it’s just the way it is. In fact this is one of the major pluses that drew my wife and myself to Edisto. The small town, laid back, out of the way atmosphere.

The EZ Shop at 100 Palmatto across from the Pavilion next to the Piggly Wiggly carries a limited amt. of frozen offshore bait. I saw a box of ballyhoo today when I was getting a subway sandwich for lunch.

Just to add to the observations here, I noticed yesterday that the Piggly Wiggly has frozen squid. It’s in the back, left corner of the store, between the t-shirts and the tackle. They may have had one or two other items (along with chicken/turkey necks for crabbing).
Just trying to learn every bit I can about saltwater fishing…
