Where to catch stingray (from shore)

Sounds crazy right? I am looking to stock up on stingray because I use them as shark bait… I am making a trip down to a favorite beach of mine in Alligator Point Florida to do some land based shark fishing but I need to stock up on bait before going! Surely someone around here knows a place or two where I can get a few easy stingray.

When at folly pier you will see some guy’s catching some, ask for them. Tourist catching some, ask for them! For catching your own, flat, sandy bottoms. Just use heavy mono connected to a strong circle hook in the 4/0-6/0 range. Just use pieces of mullet, finger mullet, or menhaden, cut or live. Hope this helps, I don’t know the best places to catch them but I do know how. Good luck on catching some shark bait, tight lines!
Btw make sure to post some result’s!

Light travel’s faster than sound. This is why some people appear smart until you hear them speak.

Caught 2 nice sized rays at folly today, I was using mud minnows on a double drop rig and a Carolina rig. Fished for 45 minutes on incoming tide. Would’ve kept them for you but I was doing catch and release and had no way of storing them, sorry.

The Battery in downtown Charleston. You should still be able to fish there.

Go to the south side facing James Island, put on a gob of squid on the bottom, throw it out and hang on (set your bait clicker).

You will need a long handled gaff or maybe a pier gaff. I recommend a long steel leader b/c of the possibility of a shark or cutting your line on oyster beds.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have had several off site tips given to me too I will have to try some of these out in the coming week. I appreciate it

tried the battery facin the island tryin 4 stingray myself and caught several baby sharks and made a little kids day lettin him reel 2 of em in but the bait clicker was silent tonight for big stingrays.

the cownose are getting thick off folly pier.we are snagging them with our sabiki rigs.if you’re out there walk out to the end.we’ll give you everyone we catch.i plan to be out there this weekend
.

try casting into the channel at bohicket marina. Fish shrimp or blues crab on the bottom

DavidG if you are still in pursuit of stingrays try the main channel of the cooper river and launch it out far in the deep water. i got a couple like that this weekend with squid for bait.

It’s frustration trying to get big shark baits, that’s for sure. Once in awile I’ll get fresh rays. Tried to get guys to bring back cuda from offshore by trading out cases of beer… they aren’t usually interested as sweet as I make the trade??? They say the cuda "stink up " the box. Really? That’s what trash bags are for. I feel for ya man. It’s a hard life gettin bait like that some days.

If you are going to fl to fish sharks take a good supply of ladyfish those things are great down there. i am originally from fl and we used them inshore and offshore they were the best.

fishing the surf today on the outgoing tide, i caught 2 rays. the first was about dinner plate size and the second was HUGE. i’d guess 15 lbs. not at all what i wanted but it gave a good fight! both caught on fish finder rig, 4oz, 2/0 hook, 40lb mono and bait shrimp from crosby’s. hate catching rays but i have a fun story now. fishing between a few groins on the lighthouse end of folly. guess i need to keep a camera in the tackle box…
