I’m headed to Daufuskie for a week with my own boat. Where’s the best spot to leave a truck/trailer? HHI will tow you from their city ramps after 24hrs they say. Next best place?

The places where you catch the ferries usually have places you can put a trailer
That sounds like the thing to do.

I wouldn’t leave a truck and trailer at any public ramp for a week, that’s asking for a problem. Better to use a marina to launch the boat, then store the truck and trailer in the marina lot. Skull Creek Marina on HHI would be a decent choice, also there are several in Savannah with good safe facilities and a short run to Daufuskie. Bahia Blue Marina in Thunderbolt and Hogans Marina on Wilmington Island both are very good and only 30 minutes from Daufuskie.

I ended up launching at cross island landing and checking on it twice through the week. There were two boats on trailers chained up there the whole week.
I’ve got to say it seems they let anyone own a boat and then launch it there because I had 5 different moments of awe as I navigated the idiots at that landing while I was taking out. Managed though and everything was safe.
Daufuskie was the most relaxing vacation I’ve ever had. If you are able to be alone and be happy, it is the place to go. Whole beach to ourselves, the occasional sound of a golf cart whizzing by, but you couldn’t tell if the house next door was occupied. It was great.

You should have seen Daufuskie 40 years ago. That’s when it was really great
But it’s still better than Hilton Head
Thank God nobody ever built a bridge to it.

Yeah, it seems a bit past its hey day, but I loved it. I was just telling a buddy that it’d be a shame to build a bridge, he disagreed. I just wish there was an easy/cheap way to keep your boat there. If I paid, it’d be almost too much for me to consider. We left it at the resorts dock since it was defunct. Otherwise its 66$ per day for my boat.

I didnt disagree, I just said the property values would go through the roof if they built a bridge. So my mad plan is to by up lots and then lobby for a bridge, and retire.
I heard that the lot next to John Cougar Melancamp’s is for sale. Of course, if you could buy it, you could probably retire anyway ![]()

I worked at Haig Point for a summer internship and I loved it out there. The natives are the most laid back people I have ever met and I’m pretty dang laid back. I haven’t been in 15 years so I’m sure its changed some anyway.
