Where's the best Shrimp n Grits

I live in a town (Nashville) where tourists are the norm so trust me when I say it pains me to write this post. My girlfriend and I are coming down at the end of Sept to be tourists. We’ve both been to Charleston several times as my parents live up the road in Columbia. I’ve got some fishing lined up with Captn Richard for a half day thanks to the recommendations of people of this site. But I really want to skinny on the local knowledge of where I need to go to get the best authentic low country shrimp n grits. It doesn’t have to be fancy and preferably be somewhere that is not a touristy destination. This landlocked TN boy needs several days of quality seafood to stuff my belly with. If any of you respond with your kitchen being the best place please include your address, I’ll bring the beer!

Maybe some others have found it, but I have not found a restaurant that serves shrimp and grits like I am used to growing up here. Do get me wrong Every shrimp and grits I have had were great, but each place seems to want to put their mark on it making their shrimp and grits. It was actually a left over dish from a fried shrimp dinner the night before for us.

That being said, you can try Hominy Grill, Southend Brewery, Marina Variety Store (at the City Marina), or 82 Queen. All have very good S&G IMO.

82 Queen’s BBQ shrimp and grits is pretty darn good…

Hate to tell you low country peeps…THE BEST shrimp and grits are right here at my dining room table! Next to mine are The Blue Marlin in the Vista, Columbia. I’ve tried em everywhere down there, only to leave dejected and morose for not finding better than mine… That being said, I’ve not been told of a local joint that rocks the grits…I’ll try anywhere at least once!

I second Hominy Grill. I’ve had some (**() good fare at the Variety Store as well, but can’t vouch for the shrimp and grits.

Bang bang shrimp n grits is awesome here.

It’s a little far out from Charleston, but worth the drive in my opinion if you want to get away from downtown madness. Never had a bad meal or experience here. Chef and wait staff is top notch and go out of their way to make you fell like family. Five minutes from Stono River.

Get the fried bacon appetizer too!

She’s little, but she’s pretty, skinny and fast.

I’ve had them at a bunch of local places - 82 Queen, Hominy, Queen Ann’s Revenge, 2-3 catered events, out on Sullivans, IOP… IMHO, Waters Edge on Shem Creek has the best.

If you don’t mind the drive, Rosebank Farms Cafe at Bohicket Marina has the best shrimp and grits I have found in the area. Also worth a boat ride too.

I’ll 2nd justcr’s recommendation for the Shrimp & Grits at The Blue Marlin in Columbia. My wife makes some pretty good S&G as well but, we’re out of shrimp right now.

I have to give it to Page’s Orka Grill on Coleman Blvd - that is of course you can’t get 'em in your own kitchen.

I would say Salt and Light Cafe in Moncks Corner but I sold it in December. I used yellow stone ground grits cooked in shrimp stock with cheddar cheese and then made a bacon and shrimp gravy.

The shrimp and grits at the Okra Grill on Coleman in Mt. P were pretty dang good. So was the fried flounder.
