I visited a spot I haven’t been to since Mathew…this place got jacked-up! I would say this section of Edisto lost 40-50 yards of beach.
So…from THE WOODS…fished from 9:30-3:30…must have landed at least 50 Whiting, lost count, was a lull at the high tide turn. Some fatties along with average sized, one Rat Red about 13". No Rays…No Sharks, just Sea Mullet. As you can see by the pics, not alot room for casting. Did chunk the new big rod out a few times, works great! No takers on cut bait. Fished one rod most the day, fresh shrimp. And yes, OVER the Trees.
I did think about what to do if something bigger did bite. Would have had to wade out in front of the snags to play the fish, waste deep +waves. And it was tight getting through, had to move a few logs and limbs, hold back some tree tops. I still love this section of Edisto, very productive. Unfortunately the hurricane destroyed the beach. And yes Web, braid. Figured is was my best option for it’s intended use to take advantage of the 60# drag and still fling my bait far as possible. I shortened my top shot to 3-4 wraps, clears the guides nice now. 100yrds with bait should be achievable now.
Nice trip Mr. Parker. I love that stretch of beach too, but also haven’t been there since the last hurricane. I would love to get into that many whiting ! Glad September is coming.
I’ve. Been thinking of going there this year but talked to a couple of people who said it went from bad to worst. Its a bummer a couple of beaches down there got it bad last year.
Thanks for the pics and post. A bite is a bite - sounds like supper.
Glad that spot is open. Was closed still last time I was down. I know the south end is muddy and flat and bite was very slow. No structure there at all. Plenty up that way. I hear water is in trees at high and no beach.
