Whiting

My charter clients today told me they were catching 16-18 inch whiting in the surf at Edisto the past few days.

Nice! S.C. State record is only 2lbs. -10oz. Maybe a weight scale instead of a tape. Might make them famous! I’ve caught a few 2+lb Whiting that were not 17" long. Sounds like the breaders are moving into the surf zone. Biggest we could manage this weekend was maybe 13"-14" ?

Sounds like some fun catchin’.

10-12 inches was more likely the case. They are always bigger when you don’t have a tape measure! He did say they were full of eggs so it must be spawning time.

Sharks are here, we will start posting reports again this season. Kind of fell off after tournament season last year. We caught whiting primarily on shrimp and … whiting! Since we often use chunks of whiting for rays I like to take the last 1/4 of the tail section and put little chunks on my double dropper. Blues, Reds and random rays will often pick this section up. In FL even more will eat the small pieces of whiting
