I have been completely aware of the advertising benefits of this whole thing from the very first response, and have been enjoying that most of all. Why do you think I keep responding?? Sorry if it looks like I was offended or something. I’m really not. I just wanted to take up for Benny on that lsat post (and keep Midgie from stepping in it with the wrong guy), because Benny’s a friend of mine that has really helped me in big ways in the past (and he is who he says he is); and some of Midgie’s comments were beyond teasing (He said they were sincere and based on experience; and he started to challenge Benny to a duel. Sorry, but that’s just what happened). Midgie, your response to me about the fork WAS funny. I loved it. My wife laughed. She knows me (and my essays).
I really look forward to talking to people here (and generally on this site). I DO sometimes sound perhaps too psuedo-intellectual or too serious about things though; but it’s not because I’m upset or conceted. I only get so long winded with my typing because my fingers just won’t stop. It’s been that way since college, when my professors kept assigning me papers to write. Then later, I prayed one time and asked God to make me thorough. I became obsessively thorough. You might even say OCD! I try to keep it short, but, well (I actually just erased a BUNCH of text that I just wrote to keep you from reading for an hour).
On the other hand, Fish, those who dish out will also be asked to take in–it’s just the way we boys are. Midgie understands that. One point merits a counterpoint. No harm done. With that established, I HAVE tried to mellow down this thread a couple of times, before someone really got upset. Testosterone can be a dangerous thing (but then, I guess estrogen ain’t no walk in the park either ). Anyway…I’m OK if you’re OK (and I don’t mean that in the liberal since of the phrase).
P.S. Fish, just so you’ll know, I do my signature that way on purpose, because, as a site
midgie were you sending me on a snipe hunt? the security gaurd at the golf course was not very happy!!, and we as a reading group must know, what kinda of auto, boat, hairstyle, toothpaste do YOU have???
ben
lee is an advertiser here, and we apprciate his support of this great site, so i think it only fair with all tjis publicity you should talk to reggie about throwing a little cash to the picketts???
and next time im in washington NC would love to check out the plant
seen scouts, key west and sea fox
owned the first 2 and wanted to make mods, and asked if i could see them before they put the pieces together, and did business with the renken family.
it would be pretty cool to see a quality built upperend boat go from gelcoat to buffing.
I can vouch for midgie - as a true coonass cajun, he rarely uses toothpaste. Claims it has something to do with “the man”, not real sure what that means. And his hair sure ain’t purty; resembles a rabid possum - just as it exits your trash pile. His car isn’t much, but you should see his trailer. It ain’t no ordinary trailer.
Thanks for the reply. I do get a little worked up on occasion. I guess I misunderstood your last post and Benny’s. I thought you guys were getting ticked off and defensive, when really you don’t have anything to defend. I didn’t think the defensiveness was all that “sexy” like the Fountain 38LX. I also wondered if maybe you weren’t seeing the positive advertising aspect and was just trying to let you know that because of the thread made many of us take note of who you are and your services. Sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you guys.
I really did go to the web and check is out as I said. It is quite a boat. I like the 48 Cruiser a little better. With me getting so worked up from time to time, it would be better for those on board to have more space to avoid me if the need arose!! LOL! Sorry to hear that you aren’t going to get the 38LX this year. I was a bit disappointed for you. It really is a sharp boat. I am sure you will still enjoy the one you have until you decide to get another one. I think Benny might owe you a couple of test drives in the mean time since you have brought such attention to Fountain.
Lee, hope you have a safe trip to wherever your destination might be. When you get a chance, would you mind posting an insurance check list of things to consider? You mentioned a few, but I am sure there are a few more things you would advise folks to take a look at regarding their policies. I know you specialize in Fountains, but what other types and sizes of water craft do you insure?

PS Since I am already in trouble, I just wanted to add one thing. I think the phillips head screws all pointing the same direction is a little cheesy. Personally, I would prefer a torques head with a button head top or to have the head of the screw recessed into the panel say maybe in a stainless steel color. I think the little star shape in the torques head is sexy, well really cute is more like it. The phillips head, straight dri
they gotta do sumpin to justify the 1 million dollar tag for a 45 foot boat
i just found it pretty unusual that somebody actually came up with the idea and authority to make aomething like that happen:stuck_out_tongue:

Your question about deadrise. It varies depending on model of boat from 21 to 24 degrees and changes from the stern to bow. As for the steps they also change from model to model depending on the application. Don’t mean to be so vague but every model of boat we build is built for a certain application. Please take some time for a plant tour.
Thanks

I think it is great that y’all advocate the sale of 70 mph boats to inexperienced boaters…kinda like the one that killed three of my friends in Florida. I’m sure he would have seen them if he didn’t have his bow up so high while coming through the bridge…though I’m sure the chicks were impressed. Coming off a plane is such a pain intheass. To each his own. It wamrs my heart to know I share the crowded water with these people…
I am sorry about your three friends. Your anger is understandable. I apologize if my joking contributed to your anguish. Your comments on safety are timely. Regards
Benny dont waste any more of your time not only will middgie not take a tour nor will he ever buy a boat, any boat. His goal in life is to rouse people and gaff sunfish. Dont hate him for it…thats who he is…Love him or hate…thats greg1. Im just glad he has been behaving!!!
Lee go fishing i know you have got enough advertising on this…im tired of being 60 miles out and everyone asking about a sexy fountain!!! Happen yesterday as soon as knot guilty came by and made the “jump to hyperspace”
i have had 3 fountains and not once did i not feel alittle beat up after a day of fishing…loved the boat but any thing that fast will tire you out…35 ft 24 kts 28000 pds know thats a poor mans offshore ride!!!
Who are you really? Are you a midget? Are you a little mullet used for bait? Or are you some strange combination of a man fish? Sort of a joke of mother nature? Or since Fountain boats already boast of former Republican President Bush and am sure the current one rides along with him from time to time, are you Democrat Jimmy Carter or Democrat Bill Clinton. I was just wondering since Ben from Fountain was really concerned about your opinion now. I can already see the print ads. " Fountain Power boats, the most powerful boats in the world driven by the most powerful men in the world on both sides of the isle. Fountain Power Boats, the choice of smart Republicans and Democrats alike. Fountain Power Boats–The Bipartisan Boats!"
Seriously, Ben if you are reading this, I do have suggestion for you. I was thinking after reading Crackers’s comments about the safety of the boat when it is on a plane cruising along. Have you ever considered mounting a couple of water proof cameras on the front and linking to a couple of flat screens in the cockpit? Or you could put a couple of glass panels mounted flush in the body like a window with the camera behind in the forward cabin. I would think in would need to be a smart camera that could self adjust itself to the horizon or at least have manual controls so you could do it yourself. Just a thought. I almost ran over a full grown tree floating 20 miles out in Lake Erie one day and an extra set of eyes would have been great. Also a yacht almost ran over me and a friend on a stalled jet ski down in Charleston. Although he saw us dead in the water, he just thought since he was bigger we ought to get out of his way. We were just barely able to get out of the way. So I guess if the driver doesn’t care, it really wouldn’t matter if he had extra help in seeing or not. FYI, it wasn’t a Fountain that almost killed me. You guys are doing just fine without my two cents, but I just thought I would toss it out there for your consideration and you
Warren. I’d be real careful here buddy. I don’t think you of all people want this one to get personal. So consider yourself warned.
Also, if you had a 26’ Glacier Bay in Venice, La would you buy another offshore boat for here? However, I am seriously considering this for afternoon trips to Capers: http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/2/8/65804728.htm
My next offshore boat will moist likely be a '31 Gravois Cat. Don’t bother doing an internet search, you won’t find anything. Just trust me when I say I’ve done my research.
Benny, I’d love to take a tour of the plant. However, like I’ve said before, my opinions of the Fountain owners most likely will not be changed by the plant, and I still wouldn’t take one at half price.
To ALL
It’s sad when accidents happen, reports usually will say operator error, some say equipment. In the case of speed, your car will run faster than the speed limit or the ability of the operator. Speed of the boat is the responsibility of the driver.
We do inform and train owners of Fountain Powerboats how to properly operate their boats. We also include with every boat video on how to operate your boat. As for camera’s on boats yes we install rear and forward looking as an option. But if the operator spends to much time looking at the camera when does he or she have time to monitor the surroundings of the vessel much less whats going on inside the boat. We do advise the owners to properly operate the boat within their capability.

If they are the best boat ever built, you could do what Ferrari did with the Enzo. To be considered ”suitable” to purchase one of the 349 Enzo’s to be made, one has to be a long-time Ferrari customer, and one must have owned an F40 and an F50. They want to be sure the people buying this thing know how to handle a high performance machine and don’t just have a big checking account.
I was one of the four crew members fishing the “knot Guilty” yesterday. Left the Daniel Island Marina at around 6AM at finished cleaning fish at around 7PM. I am not beat up, sore, or whatever. Fished hard all day. No big deal, I’m ready to go again, right now.
As far as the “poor mans offshore ride” comment, tell me you’re not serious.[:0]
triton jim, Im only saying when you guys came by my crew was sitting on the coach in the ac eating dinner and watching tv…thats all im saying…loved my fountain but after a day or 2 of fishing you are a little beat up
i contributed to this thread way back on page 1 to point out that fountain had sold 2 boats to an individual who had sunk one and tried to tunnel through a mountain at lake hartwell with the other. again, either there is something wrong with fountain boats or the sales staff. i don’t know much about design–will leave this part of the discussion to babymullet. crackerasscracker is doing okay—it’s apparent he can hold his own.
these boats are simply overpowered dangerous torpedos. they are an insult to fishing, an insult to the ocean, and an insult to the world.
