Who Was In the 38LX Fountain at the GTH on 4/25

1st) If your tired of the thread, then don’t click on it.

2nd)Quote: “No CC is dry…period”: Dude, you just lost ALL credibility in this conversation. My original point was to bust gotcha for using “sexy” but if you want to compare we will. My Glacier Bay is dry. Dry as a bone.

3rd) Its pure logic. The reason a Fountain is faster isn’t because you bought bigger engines. It’s because of the engineering. Foutnatins are designed to get up on top of the water a skim over it. Thats why you feel every goddamm bump and why you splash water up on the face of every wave for 60 miles. Every serious fishermen understands this and thats why none of us drive Fountains. Its the same reason we make fun of greenhorns who do buy a Fountain as their first boat. They buying something else. And Fountain and Donzi market specifically to that.

If you want a fast boat then great… go get one. But don’t try to say its one of the best rides out there. I fish in a 26 on days that
your crew is puking on a 34. And I used to fish a 23 Sea OX on days that the “Ronnies” decided to stay home and practice their rooster tails in the cove.

Midgie,

First I wasn’t the one that said something about the thread being over. That was Gotcha.

Second, Cats aren’t CC boats. They are CATS.

Third, I know the reasons why Fountains are faster. They are not engineered to get you on top of the water. They are designed to cut through the water. This is due to the narrow beam and hull design. Just like Scarabs and Donzi.

Also I know many serious fisherman that own Fountains. Yes, some have chosen a boat with a wider beam and others still love them.

I also said that nothing is better for the ride than a Carolina Classic…well a Buddy at 61 would be better.

The ride of these boats is great on the way out, especially in rougher seas…Their ability for fishing is not what I like. To narrow of boats.

I never said I liked them…all I said was they have a nice ride out. And if you were on one that was just skipping along…then the capt needed a lesson in proper boat driving.

Why does everyday seem to start with WTF

Enough about the ride and gold chains, what about those “dainty” fishboxes on those fountains?

Miss Kahlua, 22 CC Sea Pro

Sorry, I thought CC meant Center Console.

They’re narrower to create less surface friction between the hull and the water. Less fiberglass making contact and bow way up over the water. They even have those inverted steps at the water line (can’t remember what they’re called right now) to help the boat get up on plane faster and as far out of the water as possible. The reason the trim tabs are so agressive on Fountain is so that you can dig in and get the bow back in the water when you want to turn and then out again quickly when you’re running straight.

A displacement hull (Cat) is designed to cut through the waves.

Its all about what the deadrise is engineered for and the deep V. Fountain has neither. If you like yours great. More power to you. i’ll continue to hold my opinion which is this: If you’re a true fisherman then you’re not getting what you payed for out of those boats.

OK SKINNYJ i will take your challenge but since i sold my 3rd fountain i will have to see your cat and raise you a 35 bertram!!!
the reason a FOUNTAIN is faster is because it has a pad bottom the flatter a bottom the faster a boat!!( That tid bit of info is on the video)
A fountain is probely not as comfie at the slow speeds as a cat i will give any one that but if you want comfie buy a BERTRAM or any other boat that you can ride in the ac and watch a movie on the way out if that doesnt work buy what you can afford and be thankful you can go fishing when others are not so lucky!

as far as midgie there was a sunfish in ripley this afternoon:smiley:

They are for Zima’s silly…

You know I’ve been to the edge…

My boat’s bigger than your boat

I would trade my Cat for a 35 Bertram in a heart beat, but I like the ride of the 31 Bertram over the 35. The 35 does have a lot more creature comforts, though…

My boat’s bigger than your boat

That’s my point Warren. What you paid for your 35 Bertram compared to a new 34 Fountain. If you’re gonna spend the money, you can do so much better (if fishing is your primary use for the boat).

Now if you own an auto detailing shop and sell a lot of spinners…then that’s a different story. Getchu some Myrtle Beach dancers and pop in a techno CD in and ride that Fountain to Shem Creek BO!

Any weight to that sunfish?

Midgie,

To make things clear I DON’T OWN A FOUNTAIN. Also the way the boat is built is to cut through the waves at higher speeds.

Also I did mean Center Console with the CC. Yes Cat boats are a center console, but I don’t consider them the same group. You can’t compare the characteristics of a Cat with a CC. As you said they are Displacement Hulls…The whole boat stays pretty much in the water. A CC doesn’t.

Why does everyday seem to start with WTF

Now I see the light:smiley:

Miss Kahlua, 22 CC Sea Pro

Most cats are planing hulls. Glacier Bay is the only cat that I know of that is a displacement hull. Hey Warren, do you want to put that 35 Bertram up against the 34 Glacier Bay? Also, fountains need the extra speed because most fountain owners are slowed down from wind resistance from their back hair and refuse to shave it. The owner’s manual even says that if you shave your back hair, you should drop 50-100HP off your setup for best results.

i might have been mistaken! I flushed the toilet about 3 minutes before i spoted and come to think of it either the sun fish had yellow spots or it was my corn from lunch!!! Either way it was big enough to GAFF:stuck_out_tongue:

I think that I just lost my appetite. I’m never going to eat corn again. Well, at least not until tomorrow.

Ok crazy, you just meant mono hulls. I got ya’ now.

But most Cats are still cheaper than their comparable Fountains so you do have to include them in the conversation.

And as Warren pointed out Fountains have flat bottoms. Last I checked the ocean damm sure isn’t flat-topped.

my point is most Fountain owners are a certain personality type that like “fast sexy” lines and don’t research much of the practicality of the boat they’re about to drop $100,000+ on. this can cause a serious conflict when they want to get serious about fishing. They either have to sell the boat for far less than they paid for it or they have to find somebody as green as they were to take it off their hands.

Simpson’s is starting. I’ll finish this thought tomorrow.

I’m watching you SJ…:sunglasses:

My boat’s bigger than your boat

!!!
We can go any day!!!

Okay, I am going to call Larry tomorrow. And as soon as a 34’ is delivered to Chucktown, that will be the end of this conversation!

I think that I am flattered, but I just want you to know that I only like women.

There bottom may be flatter, but the bow isn’t. This is what I was talking about in the ride out that they cut through the wave. They can’t do it like a CAT, but they do pretty well.

Also as I said if you want a great riding boat…Carolina Classic, Albermarle, Jarret Bay (oh yeah they make CC too), Pursuit, Grady’s, Swan bays…and the list goes on

Why does everyday seem to start with WTF

The ac must have fogged my computer on the boat…You are going to call someone to borrow a boat…You are baseing this bet on something you havent ridden in or own…skinnnej you have stooped down to the level of half the people on this sight…You are right this is the end of the matter
