I’m just thinking out loud, so this is my worthless ramblings.
I’ve fished once a week or so for the past 6 weeks, twice if I’m lucky. Even for my novice level, It’s on fire-everything inshore where i fish-bass, trout, sheep, flounder, bluefish.
and it’s not just me, I’ve seen the boats around me ‘catchin.’
so I know there’s quite a bit of catchin going on.
why don’t you post reports?
I’ll start.
the novelty of posting reports has worn off.
my kids no longer get excited seeing their picture on the internets
in the past, I’ve posted reports and gotten my [too thin skinned] feelings hurt when others more experienced [which is most of this audience] ridiculed me or poked fun at me. believe me, there’s plenty to poke fun at.
I can’t speak for everyone but, I just don’t think many of ya’ll want to read about me going fishing and getting skunked. I could post the crabs my wife catches (watch it, not those kind of crabs).
Great topic PeaPod. For me, when the majority of comments people posted in response to my reports seemed to be smart assed and unappreciative I quit posting. I used to write up what I thought were nice helpful reads for people with lots of useful info but why bother and waste my time if im only going to get annoyed later. Bottom line is, though I still fish several days every week and am still fine with sharing info and helping people out the general attitude on this site has changed for the worse. Those who can truly fish have nothing to prove on an internet fishing site, much less one where people are going to talk crap about those who actually post helpful things on here. I took a long break from this site and just started to look at it again in the last couple weeks maybe I 'll post a good helpful report again in the near future but it doesnt matter much to me if I do or not.
I dont fish as much as I use to or would like, but when I do I will post. The people who chastise others for keeping fish doesnt bother me. I will give my imput when I see a topic worth inputting in but as far as if there is something I dont agree with and is within the law I stay out of the mud slinging. Just my 2 cents.
A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.
I try to post after every trip especially since not many posts come from the Stono. Thanks to Opps_lost, Shamrock f o, Sea Tonic, and others there is usually at least a couple Stono posts every week now. If I don’t is is usually because I’m tired or occupied with something else once I get home.
since the sites character infrastructure has changed it’s just not been as enjoyable to post reports.
so I post them from time to time on another site…
I think facebook has taken over in the reports regard with the ease of mobile uploads. (no one wants to go to photobucket, upload, then upload on this site)
been on the site for a little while an have gotten
alot of INFO from here. since i am rather new
to salt water im still learning an the curve
is a long one.
enjoy the water but it is alot better if afew fish
get to the boat.
seems i learn real slow so guys Keep Posting,
an try to ignore the _____ .
look foward to the oyster roast an meeting some
of the guys to do know about salt water fishing
I haven’t posted because I’m trying to learn from reading what more experienced folks are throwing out here… I’m still just a newbie to the fishing scene here in Charleston (especially Salt water) but am learning to love it.
A big THANK YOU to folks who do post useful information (some of us truly appreciate it), and people like me just blow off the smart comments. Hate to see it run people off the site cause I don’t know of any other sites to go to! LOL… If I can get out once every two weeks I’m lucky, to many toys I guess (golf clubs/motorcycle/deer rifles/kids/wife/) then I still have to work in order to be able to pay for it… DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO!!! have a good day…
I think some post because they need some sort of approval/accolades from strangers to boost their self esteem. Some have a vested interest, like for instance a guide or tackle shop trying to drum up business. Some like to think they are helping others get a leg up on learning to fish and indeed do it for altruistic reasons.
Personally, even though I’ve posted in the past, I never post about fishing success online anymore. I think the internet has had an overall bad effect on the resource. Any mention of location can lead to overfishing in the spot. Indeed, every tip we give helps untold numbers of new fishermen to fast track their fishing success, often before they have gained an appreciation for how precious and rare the resource is. Even something as innocuous as a fishing report might motivate a few more fishermen to drop the boat in the water. I think every post can have an effect on fishing pressure. I try not to do anything to help increase that pressure. This is a selfish stance but it is also what IMHO is best for the limited resource we all take from.
Bragging about catching the big fish is part of fishing. I just keep my bragging to close friends, but often not even them.
More often than not I’ll post the report to the blog page of my site and put a link here. Sometimes I’ll do the short summary here and the longer detailed report on the blog.
Main reason for the change is ease of use. My site supports easily uploading pics. This forum doesn’t, so the extra time of uploading to photobucket is just annoying.
Secondary reason is there are a few folks on here that are just miserable internet personalities.
those of you who don’t like the photobucket upload to then upload here, there is a MUCH easier way now…it cannot be done in the “Quick Reply”, but when you click “Reply to Topic” you will see a paperclip and “Insert an Image File”…browse your hard drive for the file and then insert…if you have Firefox it will provide a link you then copy and paste into your post…still not as simple as directly posting to your thread, but much easier than photobucket…
