Great topic to discuss. I generally don’t post my reports anymore for several reasons. Im always glad to help out anyone I can, but at the same time I do not feel any need to ‘gloat’ about a great trip by posting pics and so forth. Thread hijacking would be another large reason why I dont post reports. I also just do not get on the water much anymore compared to how often I used to fish in years past. And lastly, in the past I have posted reports of where and how I fished, and it led to an entire fleet sitting where I fished a few days before with several instances where the folks sitting there were keeping everything they could…to the point the area was a desert 2 weeks later. Just my take on the subject, great discussion.
agree with the too difficult to post pictures, maybe this should be something that the admin folks should address, do they monitor these posts to upgrade this site?
i think Trustme was just trying to do a test picture post and screwed up his avatar by accident. while it was messed up just letting us know that boat was for sale. no harm no foul. definitely agree that the pics are a pain to post but after trying it the new way then it’s much easier. the only problem is having to get the size under the max bytes. nothing a little “paint” can’t fix but it’s annoying when you have to resize them one-by-one. there are programs that you can quickly dump a whole boat load of pics in and resize them at once but i’m just too lazy to look into it. until then, i’ll make a better effort to take pics and then post them. probably won’t be as good as penny and other folks but just personally feel guilty posting a pic-less report all the time yet hopping through others’ posts to look at pics. we’ll see how long i can keep that up though… plus i have to catch fish too. meanwhile, already seeing some great reports this week. thanks to all for sharing. i’ll stop being all corny and crap now. good luck to all.
New to this site, here’s a pic from the spring. That was around # 12 of 20 caught that day to include a 38# and 42# pound Hoo not to mention the couple of baricuda’s that were “released”. We keep what we catch… but we do move on if it’s nothing but a bunch of peanuts. As far as off shore goes with the cost of maintanence, fuel, beer, and food, it’s nice to have a little table fair for a reward.
On the inshore thing, we do pretty much the same. If we get into the spot tail hard we’ll catch a few extra for fun and cull some of the smaller keepers… (alive) but don’t do the 60 catch and release crap like a lot of guides and weekend warriors. As for trout the son and I will keep our twenty if the bite is strong. We quit shrimping a few years ago, @ $2.50-$3.00 off the boat you can’t beat it.
Never been much for photos, but cutting my teeth on the digital age just might start into that hobie.
I’ve enjoyed it, but like some or many have already said, once in awhile its like “is it worth it?”.
I’ve avoided much posting except for milestones, like the bull red fun. Much of the reason isn’t because I’ve been targeted with much negativity, but some that I see occur to others is nauseating.
Sell’s flounder post was a prime example. He shared a successful - and legal - day with the forum and it got bashed to the point people ran out of things to bash about and had to turn to shrimpers and trawlers and all get out. When I see that I keep hoping for fresh posts so that topic slowly sinks to page 2 and I don’t have to look at the header, regardless of what the latest person said.
I appreciate the advice and nice comments I’ve recieved. I’ve typically tried to inform, entertain and/or amuse on a post. I’ve tried to be positive in my responses to others’ posts. I’m thankful for the people I’ve personally had the pleasure of meeting that I never would have before this website. But the negative nature of alot of the comments is slowly fading me away from it.
Like Opt said, Summerville Saltwater Anglers has been a refreshing way to personally do what this website often did - educate, share knowledge and fellowship. We both serve on the board (having met via CF.com, BTW), and it has been rewarding to bring good people together with shared values and a passion for fishing to enjoy the sport that we truly love. Like he said, its been a great education, and great family oriented FUN!
It’s a photo sharing site. As far as I know you have to use one of these to upload to this site. Has that changed? I would like to post to the photography forum but my workflow is tedious enough as it is. I don’t understand why uploading on this site is still prehistoric?

Go back and read posts from the pre-ban glory days of this site,(before 8/31/2010). The shakers and makers of this site were all run off because they not be PC enough.
I don’t post very often because I don’t really think about it. I read and use this site very casually when i have time in a busy schedule. I’d like to post more and hopefully will in the future, even though i fish a lot less in the winter. I enjoy reading the posts and occasionally putting my 2 cents in. I’ve read about the complaints about other members posts, but i don’t really see it. It’s all just opinions so there’s no need to get one’s feelings hurt. Keep postingfor the sake of everyone else!
