Heading to Wild Dunes for the weekend. Gonna do some early AM fishing. Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction for a nibble or two. Ocean side or Inlet side? Down by the creek? or just walk the beach and watch the water? Also whats in the water I can target. Using a smaller 8’ rod with 2500 reel on it. Thanks in advance!
Recently stayed in Wild Dunes but enjoyed a half day inshore charter with holycityfishingcharters and enjoyed some of the best fishing we’ve had in years, not to mention my first reds overslot as well as keepers plus other types!
Target whiting in the surf using small pieces of shrimp. You can buy a tub of them froen at the marina.

Definitely go to the inlet side. Youll see the creek that runs down the beach and into the inlet. I want to say it’s by hole 16… that spot is killer. Fish where the creek enters the ocean and use live bait. You can’t go wrong if you go there.

KillinR is correct. If you fish front of the golf hole, you can’t go wrong. however, make sure you fish the ocean side of the hole, not around on the inlet side. For me there was a 50x difference in # of fish caught. Whiting, rays, pompano, trout, sharks.
I’m heading here next week & have access to the private beach at hole 16. Will a double rig 4oz weight with shrimp/squid do the job ?
quote:That will do the trick. Usually 3oz is enough weight, but you may need to go up to 4oz. If 4oz doesn't hold, I go home. Shrimp or squid will work, but I prefer fresh shrimp. I seem to catch more sharks and stingrays on squid, so I usually stick with shrimp. Small pieces on small hooks. I usually fish double drop with #2 or 1/0 circle hooks, and rarely go above a 2/0. Only go larger if targeting sharks. Don't cast too far. Most fish will be feeding in and around the breaking waves. Usually just sharks farther out.

I went today but Im sure I was on the other end of the creek.Caught all small reds. I will check out the other end 1st thing in the am. I went today around 10:30am
Was at golf course on ocean side this morning. Kind of slow. Current was going hard to north and kind of tail end of incoming tide. Not a great combo, but got a couple pup Sharks, a ray, whiting, and a 2-foot shark on cut whiting. Kids had fun.
