If it helps him relate to the players, then so be it. You’re right, it’s not hurting a (**() thing, and probably helping immensely with attitude and commitment. Like you said, a coach that is passionate about winning and shows some emotion means a lot to these kids.

Him leaving doesn’t change the talent level, but it may change the attitude. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them much more motivated. They knew he quit on them long before yesterday.
All needling aside, with the plethora of unprecedented things Spurrier has done in his career, the steady rise then unimaginable decline to the program at South Carolina has to be an anomaly in college football. I really still don’t understand how things went to s#$t so quickly.

Well, it wasn’t actually quick, if you were really paying attention (or if you go back and look now). It started when Beamer and Graham left the staff. They were replaced with lesser coaches/recruiters (MUCH less, in Graham’s case; Sands is without hyperbole the worst recruiting RB coach in the SEC). Jr. was named recruiting coordinator and that was a special kind of awful decision. He doesn’t recruit, admits he doesn’t like talking on the phone, and bases his territory on proximity to his vacation home. Then Johnson left, and instead of replacing him with a solid DC, we elevated Ward, who cannot evaluate talent, and can’t run a defense on his own (don’t give me 2012. We did have a solid DC that year. Two in fact. They wore numbers 36 and 54). Then we lost Lawing and replaced him with a coach who “taught” or dlinemen to ignore assignments and rush up field all the time.
