Has anyone fished the wimbee landing area lately? If so, any luck with flounders? Thanks!
Or any fish at that matter.
I have fished Combahee for years, just not lately. My old CmB buddy died last year. We used to arrive at Steel Bridge when it was still dark, leave there when there was barely enough light to see, take a right and detour through Salt Break, catch bait and reds on mid-outgoing at some of the creekmouths in there, go past WmB landing, turn left into Schooner Channel, fish some of the treefalls in there on Low outgoing, go back into CmB through the cut-through in Schooner, turn left and fish the old CmB RR bed on low to mid up. High Banks below the RR is an option, but I have not fished it much. The secret in hot weather is be at the landing just before first light. The first 2 or 3 hours after 1st light are magical. No one is on the water, and the fish are hungry. After about 8:30 or so, when other boats are just arriving, the best bite is over.
We always carried a pack of frozen shrimp, but usually had no trouble catching bait. We anchored near structure or just outside the outflow of a creekmouth. We would put a couple of bottom rigs out. We would throw corks/live shrimp or jigs/3" white gulp shrimp near the bank or into the creekmouth outflow. Set corks deep. Let jigs bump along the bottom on a tight line. We caught mostly redfish, some trout, and an occasional flounder or sheepshead. Bring lots of terminal tackle! Good luck!
