Is it worth trying the surf this weekend, or does it screw everything up? Been doing well w/ whiting, pomps, trout and reds at Folly in the past two weeks.
Someone told me they saw a guy pulling nice Black Drum off the Jetty at 13th, not sure what he was fishing with but sounds fun might take a go at it
Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

i was out last night with a few guys and we brought in 2 nice reds, a decent size sharpnose and about 10 whiting. most of the whiting were on the small side but they made good bait. missed a couple good hits while we were at it. also pulled in two huge rays, one was pushin’ 100 lbs.
bigcountry, sounds like yall had a good night

hasn’t been too shabby. in the past week me and the guys i’ve been fishing with have done alright. i now have three reds under my belt with the smallest taping out at 41" and the biggest guesstimated at around 50". we’ve also hauled in a 5ft or so black tip and a slot black drum. hitting it up again friday night for some more.
sounds like you had fun biggountryboy…outta curiosity what bait you usin and roughly how far out?
I’ve been using fresh whiting. The fresher the better. 8in whiting makes two baits. Cast it just past the breakers. All my luck is on the incoming tide.
ya bigcountry and jnail are the two with all of the luck when we go. Im on trip # 8 or 9 with nothing but rays. Even when someone left and I had to reel in their pole it was a ray… I must be cursed for taking their barbs and saving them for bait.
Last night we did have a run on a fist sized piece of ray, even pulled the rod and sandspike over like the night before. Otherwise even though everyone claims ray is best… I am not a believer yet. I yakked out my first bait that sc_shark brought by, a 6+lb bonita head. When we finally called it for the night it had been chomped into by some smaller sharks but nothing that could pick that beast up and eat it.
Lets see if his streak continues… bigcountryboy has 4 40in+ reds, jnail has a blacktip and a sharpnose, one of the other guys has several nice reds over 32inch and a sharpnose and only one other has the skunk worse than me!
ive had a couple runs on stingrays but the blacktip was on mullet. stingray is definately worth tossing out but as for best baits everyone will have their opinion.
The nice part about the stingray is you know it isn’t going anywhere until something eats it. However the fresh bait has been king so far whiting and mullet
