Would you have said something?

Saw some guys bring in bull red at the jetties that was clearly over the slot.
Didn’t see it get released so assuming they kept it.

They were anchored maybe, 50 yards from us so probably within shouting distance but definitely after we pulled anchor, could have driven by and said something but we didn’t.

Wondering if anyone on here would have said something to the effect of:
“Hey, nice fish. Are you aware that there’s a slot limit for keeping reds?”

Or, do you just MYOB?

Let the debate begin…

It couldnt hurt or he might have pulled out his gun and defended is catch. Now days you never know.

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

What day was this? We fished jetties saturday over by dynamite hole. Didn’t see that many people out there.

I would have MYOB, it’s their ticket

That’s the way I would lean, unless it really deserves intervention. No need to start a conflict over one fish that will end up being porpoise or crab food one day anyway. Everybody has to face themselves in the mirror.

Somebody texted me a picture yesterday of 90 trout laid out on a dock. Made me sick. NOMB though.

Sunday. It was a little sloppy out there.

I was fishing with my 5 year-old grandson off a popular public dock about a month back. There was a group of 4 or 5 guys and one lands a 30"+ redfish and proceeds to put it into a black garbage bag. My grandson, says out loud “hey papa that spottail is too big; tell him to put it back.” The guy looked at me and said “you better tell that boy to mind his own da$% business.” We packed up and left. As much as I wanted to say something back and as mad as he made me, I had to let it go. It was a losing situation all the way around.

Report the slobs to DNR. If you can by phone while they are still out there, an officer may be in the vicinity. Someone keeps a 23 1/2" fish I’ll leave them alone but not when there is a flagrant violation. Get their boat numbers and call it in. People like that are one of the reasons regs are so restrictive today. And Jack Taylor, if someone threatens my grandson like that, he will most definitely find himself in a situation he would rather not be in.

I’m with Cracker Larry. But what effect will it have to tell people to mind their own business? On this site? Where you’re jumped upon for posting a discussion question in reports? Demonized for keeping one limit of one species one day a year?

Personally I would Mind my own business until they said something to me about how they were outfishing the guide and did my clients want to get on their boat so they could catch one. Then I would call one of the handful of DNR numbers in my phone and report them. Then I would get the 411 later about how they were lit up with close to 4k in fines for oversized fish, no licenses and a few other violations. Hypothetically of course

I would have a hard time keeping my mouth shut after he made such an ignorant comment to a kid, even if it wasn’t my kid. Its smart to always carry pepper spray incase of confrontations you can’t avoid, and if it it escalates outside of your control then its peace of mind to have a pistol. We shouldn’t have to fear scum like that in our society.

Nobody is being jumped on for posting questions in report sections. The phrase "GREAT REPORT" has been around this site for years. Only recently has it been throwing peoples buffs in a wad.

Back in the day, I kept a big red, not thinking that the law had changed three days before. Honest mistake. I wouldn’t have a problem with someone easing by and saying something. “hey that was a nice fish to bad ya can’t keep them, have a great day guys…” If they want to get mouthy after that, I have no problem whipping out the old camera phone snap a pic or two. Calling law enforcement and backing it up with photos and whatever else.

Pull a gun? Yea that would be a GREAT idea for you to try…

x2 on this. No need to get directly involved. If you are SURE they are breaking the law, provide DNR with boat numbers or license tag numbers (pier or bank fishing). They will handle it if they can dispatch someone to the area.

And getting into a profanity-laden shouting match with the guy will definitely be a positive influence on your grandson? Not. Better to walk away.

I keep the DNR 1-800 number in my phone. No need to confront the guy face to face. If you think they are breaking the law, as a sportsman, you should report them. If DNR checks them out and they are legal so be it, if not, then you have done your duty. I’m no tree hugger but I believe we are all responsible for helping wildlife survive and flourish so our kids and grand kids can enjoy the same things we enjoy.

Us older guys used to call it " dropping a dime" on somebody. Id make the call.

Oh boy, can of worms here. Gotta side with the majority opinion and simply report it. I’m all for standing my ground and I do carry, but I’ve never had to draw and don’t plan to. A firearm is for peace of mind and god forbid you ever have to use it. If you are SURE, definitely call in and report it, we owe it to the fish to follow conservation rules. Without them, we got nothin.

Oh yeah, was hoping to get my third bull in as many days on the Ashley yesterday. Tons of shrimp and finger mullet in the water, caught 25 mixed critters in one cast net toss. Fishing was slow until about an hour in when my back Stradic started screaming. No big bull, but at least I got some meat out of it! Sorry it’s sideways, will remind the gf to turn the camera next time.
