Would you have said something?

Fred, you’re right! For what he paid in gas, he could have got a value meal.

I have several times seen over or underslot fish kept in Edisto. I know these ppl are trying to feed their families, not enjoying the sport like I do. I look the other way. Now if it was extreme I’d report. I’ll probably take heat for it, but I kinda feel for them.

Boat, gas, ice, bait, tackle… can buy a lot of value meals. Common sense should tell you the difference between those who need it and those who don’t. I don’t begrudge anyone who needs it. That river has fed my family too many times.

Friend of mine lives in Beresford. He videos many violators keeping WAY oversized Reds up that way, then picks up the phone and calls DNR.

A poor family keeping an under slot red fishing from a bridge is a totally different scenario than a yahoo keeping bull red at the jetties. The law does not make that distinction, but the guy at the jetties has a lot more to lose.

I think everyone would agree that if someone is literally fishing to feed their family, we’re all looking the other way. Conserving the health and life of your family is more important than conserving the fish. I’ve never KNOWINGLY kept an over- or under-sized fish in my life (when I was younger I confused a spotted trout for a weakfish and kept a 13 incher, it was 7 years ago and I still feel bad about it to this day). But before I could afford a boat, I used to fish off those docks, and I’d see the guys keeping 5-inch whiting because they had to. Yeah, one of those guys pulls up a big bull I’m not saying a word.

If you can afford a boat, you better be playing by the rules, the WATCHDOG is always there.
