Yamaha F200 filters

Our F200 got very cantankerous.
We have replaced all filter- Main 10 micron Yamaha separator, Under bonnet, and both VST. Yes, there was very fine particles in both VST. Seems impossible that they got thru 10 microns…

Now, we have completely drained the gas (not able to suck any more at the main filter) .

We plan to put fresh 10+ gallons back(holds 58). Run it and see what happens. We have an extra main Yamaha filter to replace a 2nd time if needed…

I also am thinking of a 2nd gas line filter @ 2 microns to try to catch the small stuff…??

Suggestions???

Is this on the new boat you just bought?

Any ethanol run thru it? It can degrade the rubber fuel lines/fuel tank. You said you can see particulate mater? Could be stool in the fuel from where you buy it.

The ENTER-NET Fisherman

The gas station likely had dirty gas…

The more filters you run can IMO, run the motor lean by fuel flow restriction at higher speeds. MY VST tank usually gets rust flakes in it from sitting with particulate water/condensation from not being run regularly. Draining it when it’s got to sit up is usually a good idea.

Ethanol has caused mechanics to become very busy. I run one racor with clear bottom and have it where I can see it. Good luck with your engine.

Decided to go with two filters, hoping that will catch crud.
Both are high volume.

What kind of problems are you having have you had the cranking battery tested? With mine I found the battery would crank the motor with no problem, but would keep shutting off like it was running out of fuel. Found out the battery was bad.

2017 NauticStar 2400 sport/ F200XB

No cranking issues…Keeps “running “ out of gas, unless the primer bulb is pumped.

DRMajor

DR could it possibly be a tank vent problem?

Sea Hunt 212 Triton "Head East"

Does not seem so…I have cleared one of those before.
We found particles in filters…esp VST.
Going to install Yamaha 2 micon, and in front of it a AUX 10 micron.

Motor is 2014.
It stops shortly after pumping the bulb. One local said the pumping is filling the VST tank.
Issue has been a little progressive–Would not take throttle w/o pumping bulb.
Pumped out the tank via the fuel line at the water separator. Not positive all fuel is out…Does pickup go to bottom?
Then replaced filters to “fix”. Did not fix.

A friend had same issue and Yamaha rep took out the Anti-Siphon valve. Fixed. From what I can tell, this is on top of the tank?

There is a small inspection port under leaning post, but cannot see how to get to top of the tank…?
How can you get to it??

My man, you been fooling around for a month on this…you getting paid by the hour?

Get a fuel line and bulb and run the motor off a different fuel source( portable tank/mason jar of fuel) and find out if it IS the tank or motor. If the motor runs it’s the tank. The fuel pickup in the boat tank goes to the bottom of the tank…some/all have a screen on the end of the fuel tank pickup inside the tank. That screen could be clogged with the same stool you said was in your VST tank.

Have fun …boats.

Checked the low pressure pump----DEAD,. Ran 12v to it and nothing.
Replacing the motor ASAP.

DRMajor

Are you talking about the pump inside the VST tank?

The ENTER-NET Fisherman

No. the one before it. It’s about 1.5" Diam x 4".
Outside the intake and etc.

DRMajor

BACK YARD MECHANIC FIXED…
Isolated to Low Pressure pump. DEAD. Hard wired to battery- nothing.
Went to dealer----$600!!! You are kidding me. Must be gold plated inside.

Nope…no gold. We cut it open and it is locked up with rust… Same rust we have been finding in the filters. Armature was so rusted it would not turn.

Got crazy idea, would the Amazon $20 12v pump I pumped the tank out with work?
Flows: 90 L/h.
Wired into harness. Worked in driveway. Son just took it out and it is like new and $575 saved!!! NICE

Now the big question… why so much rust?

Good for you. I forgot about the feed pump. Don’t you miss the simplicity of 2 strokes and carbs?

The ENTER-NET Fisherman

I think former owner let it sit. Never good.
